Ethereum Layer 2 Network Arbitrum’s Mainnet Beta Goes Live

One much-anticipated “rollup” layer 2 sidechain for Ethereum has now come, amidst a world of so-called scaling solutions mostly made up of sidechains and EMV-enabled rivals. Late Friday night, Offchain Labs published a blog post announcing the debut of Abritrum One.

Arbitrum One is presently in beta on Ethereum, however parties interested in participating and developing solutions with the rollup technology must ask for connectivity. The market has long yearned for a real layer 2 scaling solution, and the team claims that demand for Arbitrum has been strong right from the word go.

The announcement states

“The developers’ excitement in Arbitrum is far beyond our fevered imagination. We can’t wait to see what they have developed on Arbitrum and the quantum of gas savings this will lead to. More than 250 teams have asked for access to our developer launch, and we can’t wait to see what they build on Arbitrum and the amount of savings this will enable.”

For ages, software developers have indeed been clamoring for rollup scaling approaches.

Arbitrum operates by grouping or rolling up trades on a gas-free sidechain with a distinct, more efficient set of safety and consensus assurances before reporting them to the Ethereum chain.
While the platform is popular, several opponents claim that the deployment was poor and that the core team neglected to integrate some of the most significant DeFi covenants.

In spite of having considerable engagement with the Offchain Labs team and also being among the most crucial money legos throughout the ecosystem, Curve Finance issued an official Tweet to complain about not being in the cohort of ventures with accessibility at debut.

As a result of the launch, several difficult management decisions were made. Despite having previously committed to using Optimism as a layer 2, a suggestion to investigate an Arbitrum execution on Uniswap’s governance forums has proven to be highly trendy. Nevertheless, the Arbritrum team guaranteed that a slew of big names will be exposed during a future marketing drive.

“We’ve begun doing a series of announcements with Arbitrum ecosystem partners, and stay tuned for many more in the coming days. It’s an exciting period ahead, and we’re working hard to make sure that all of your favorite apps and infrastructure will be live and ready when we open Arbitrum One to all users.”
