Argentina’s CISPREN & NEM Partner On Blockchain Copyright Protection Solution

A blockchain-based copyright solution was created by the NEM Foundation with CISPREN, an Argentine journalists’ syndicate. The NEM foundation, a Singapore-based non-profit organization with global members, is dedicated to the continuous development of NEM blockchain technology and the promotion of a vibrant NEM users and developers ecosystem in the public, academia and industry.

The Foundation signed a MOU with CISPREN to deal with certain key challenges in the field of intellectual property rights protection, for example content theft and the non-payment of rights. It is reported that both companies will work together to develop a blockchain proof of concept (PoC) for the project.

The aim is to enable authors to upload content to blockchain systems in order to create a “timestamp,” as proof of authenticity, according to CISPREN’s press secretary, German Guismondi.

“Each article will have a unique QR code and digital signature which will serve as additional forms of proof of ownership in the event of a dispute arising,” Guismondi said.

While blockchain is an ideal place to store authorship rights without central authority for censoring, dismantling or potentially impairing original work, it can be almost impossible to take a legal path to claim that you have rights to content on blockchain because courts are almost always behind the curve in technological matters.
