After bad infrastructure compelled the closing of many bridges and highways, regardless of considerable public investment in their renovation, the city chose to introduce a blockchain system for public works.
The system will enhance access to project-relevant information for all stakeholders, as per Marcus Granadeiro, chairman of Construtivo.
Granadeiro explained the benefit of blockchain implementation:
“It is imperative that data from all construction work assets in the city of São Paulo or from ongoing projects be available online to any decision maker. Process and document management takes place in real time from anywhere.”
Granadeiro stated that blockchain technology implementation in government construction initiatives will enable the city to define the cause of issues that may arise years after the implementation of a project, as the technology offers an unalterable register of all relevant data.
Different levels of government are rapidly implementing blockchain technology in Brazil and other nations to enhance clarity and effectiveness in public administration.
Earlier this year, the Brazilian federal government started contemplating a draft proposal that mandates all divisions of local government to encourage fresh innovations such as blockchain.
Last month, the state government of Maharashtra, India’s second largest state, started setting up a regulatory sandbox to evaluate blockchain products across different apps. The govt of Maharashtra intends to use blockchain technology in supply chains, agricultural sales, automobile registration, and record administration.
