DRC is contemplating introducing a sovereign stablecoin based on the blockchain, as per a press release from The Open Network (TON). Congo’s Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and the Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo, remarked on the possibility of his country’s collaboration with TON:
“For the past few years, the Republic of Congo has been encouraging and seeing significant use of mobile payments throughout the nation. In order to go forward, we feel that TON is the number one choice for us. For both the state and the citizens, this will be an effective and practical tool for development and wealth generation.”
Cameroonian Minister of Posts and Telecommunication, Minette Libom Li Likeng, opined “The cooperation between TON and CAMPOST, Cameroon’s official postal operator, can contribute significantly in the digital realm of Cameroon’s payment systems and financial inclusion.”
Désiré Cashmir Eberande Kolongele, Ibombo’s equivalent in the DRC, expressed similar sentiments, conveying his country’s happiness at taking these steps. According to him, the introduction of the stablecoin would provide connectivity to our financial sector for millions of people who are now unbanked or underbanked. Coins centered on the TON blockchain will be used by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon, as well as the Republic of Congo.
On the heels of fruitful meetings with all of these nations, the blockchain firm has announced its aim to supply these technologies, as per TON. In accordance with the statement, the three nations will gradually implement TON’s crypto and blockchain systems.
