Cardano Foundation Collaborates with Epoch Sports and Merchandise to Introduce Blockchain-Powered Limited-Edition Jerseys

The Cardano Foundation has announced a technical collaboration with Epoch Sports and Merchandise, a renowned sports brand, and a comprehensive full-stack apparel ecosystem. The primary goal of this partnership is to introduce a limited-edition jersey that leverages blockchain technology for authentication purposes.

Limited-Edition Jerseys Utilize Blockchain for Authentication

As part of the collaboration, participants at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship were provided with 6,000 Limited Edition Commemorative Jerseys. These exclusive lacrosse jerseys, produced in a limited quantity, feature a branded patch from Epoch that incorporates near-field communication (NFC) technology. Embedded within this patch is a non-fungible token (NFT) that represents a digital version of the jersey.

By utilizing this technology, the physical garment establishes a direct connection to a secure blockchain, providing indisputable evidence of the jersey’s authenticity. Moreover, Epoch Sports and Merchandise have outlined their plans to release the remaining Commemorative Jerseys equipped with NFC technology and connected NFTs through the official web store of the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship.

Advancing Adoption of Blockchain in the Licensed Merchandise Industry

The inclusion of NFC patches in the jerseys serves a dual purpose. It not only assures consumers of the authenticity of the merchandise but also grants access to exclusive rewards and special offers. The collaboration between the Cardano Foundation, Epoch Sports, and Merchandise aims to drive the adoption of blockchain technology within the licensed merchandise industry, while also strengthening the protection of licensed intellectual property (IP).

Securing NFC Chips as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) for Authenticity and Counterfeiting Prevention

In a departure from conventional licensed IP hologram tags, NFC chips will be securely linked to blockchain records as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This implementation ensures the authenticity of purchases and equips IP owners with effective tools to combat counterfeiting. Users can refer to Pool.pm, a reference tool, for real-time visibility into all on-chain records on the Cardano blockchain, providing a comprehensive overview and access to the blockchain data.

Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the utility and accessibility of Cardano’s blockchain. He emphasized that the collaboration between Merchandise and Epoch Sports exemplifies how any merchant can adopt blockchain solutions to instill reassurance and confidence in customers, knowing that they are purchasing genuine articles. Gregaard emphasized that diversifying blockchain adoption aligns with the Cardano Foundation’s mission.

Alex Phelan, CEO of Merchandise, regarded the collaboration as a significant milestone in the licensed apparel industry. He emphasized that the partnership sets new standards for intellectual property protection and enhances fan engagement.

James Micelli, Principal of Epoch Sports, recognized the immense potential of utilizing blockchain technology to empower consumers. He acknowledged the transformative impact that blockchain deployment can have in providing consumers with enhanced capabilities and opportunities.

At the time of writing, Cardano (ADA) was trading at $0.2851, representing a 2% increase in the past 24 hours.
