Cyprus Hospital to Use VeChain’s Blockchain Platform for Medical Data Administration

VeChain, which offers blockchain powered tracking platform, has revealed that it has successfully co-developed a medical data administration platform.

Digital healthcare systems provider I-Dante was the other party involved in the creation of blockchain based platform.

The system, named “The E-NewHealthLife”, will be deployed at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus.

The health sector of Cyprus is supposedly functioning with several inadequacies arising out of obsolete technological framework, as per VeChain.

With around 300 staffs, the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus has handled 38,000 outpatient visits last year.

During the initial stage of the platform’s launch, the platform will be utilized in the hospital’s emergency division, enabling patients to document their identity, track waiting lists and administer their medical documents using their smart phone.

“Instead of relying on health information exchanges or other ways to aggregate data,” Vechain emphasized that its platform has the ability to eliminate “the middleman and accessing patient databases on a large, population scale.”

VeChain points to several challenges faced by the hospital to update its technological framework in the past few years. This includes “the administrative and technical difficulties of pooling data from different digital records systems,” and a “lack of collaboration between local departments and agencies,” and “balanc[ing] health imperatives and privacy concerns.”

The firm stresses the ability of blockchain based systems to the issues of advancing the tech systems that form the backbone of healthcare institutions, pointing that improved patient privacy is also facilitated by distributed ledger technology (DLT).

In April, VeChain stated that its blockchain technology would be used for tracking the originality of Chinese KN95 masks reaching the US ports after FDA (Food and Drug Administration) endorsed its use in the midst of deteriorating situation caused by coronavirus infections.

The Covid-19 pandemic has encouraged deployment of DLT based systems for a wide range of purposes such as medical products tracking, charity distribution and handling of crucial data.
