D3 Global and InterNetX announced a major collaboration at Solana Breakpoint 2025 to begin tokenizing more than 46 million internet domains and onboarding them to the Solana blockchain using Doma Protocol. The initiative is being described as a pivotal moment for the real-world asset (RWA) sector, as it brings a substantial portion of global internet infrastructure on-chain for the first time while opening a new asset class to users across the Solana ecosystem.
The move follows the recent mainnet debut of Doma Protocol, which is recognized as the first blockchain designed specifically to tokenize Web2 domains. Both companies framed the partnership as confirmation of a broader shift toward the concept known as DomainFi, where traditional domain ownership evolves into an on-chain, programmable framework. Under this approach, domains such as .com, .ai, and .xyz can be represented as liquid digital assets without losing their underlying DNS functionality, effectively connecting a multi-hundred-billion-dollar legacy industry with the composability of Web3.
InterNetX, part of the IONOS Group and a major global provider of cloud and hosting services, manages an extensive portfolio that includes over 22 million active domains and more than 24 million premium listings through 30,000 partners worldwide. The organization intends to use Doma Protocol to tokenize its inventory and make these assets tradable at the transaction speeds associated with Solana. The companies indicated that this will grant Web3 users immediate access to scarce, revenue-generating digital real estate that historically has remained siloed within traditional DNS systems.

Representatives from InterNetX stated that the next evolution of the internet requires domains to become more adaptable and interoperable. Company leadership noted that domains must be programmable, liquid, and usable inside Web3 environments, and emphasized that Doma Protocol is currently the only framework that enables on-chain ownership while preserving full DNS compatibility. They reported that the goal is to migrate both premium and retail domain portfolios on-chain without disrupting how these assets function for existing Web2 users.

The integration of Doma Protocol also plays a central role in the Solana Record Service (SRS), which has been positioned as a key component of Solana’s future identity infrastructure. The connection between SRS and Doma Protocol is already active on devnet, with mainnet functionality scheduled to launch in early 2026. This linkage further reinforces Doma’s significance as a foundational layer of Solana’s long-term identity architecture.
New Domain-Backed Opportunities for Solana Users
The collaboration opens the door to several innovations for the Solana community. Once integrated, users will be able to trade tokenized domains as NFTs on Solana marketplaces; manage domains directly from Solana-native wallets; and issue domain-based tokens structured through transparent bonding curves. This setup also paves the way for domain-backed lending, fractional ownership, and deeper incorporation of domain assets into decentralized finance protocols, allowing domains to function as collateral or liquidity sources across the ecosystem.
D3 leadership described the initiative as the first large-scale effort to bring the global domain industry on-chain in a meaningful way. They conveyed that Solana’s performance and composability were primary reasons for selecting the blockchain as a core ecosystem partner from the outset. The team highlighted that real domains will be able to coexist with tokens and NFTs inside the same environment as revenue-generating digital assets backed by the utility of online infrastructure.
The InterNetX partnership is being framed as a major step in bringing institutional-quality assets into Web3. Industry observers note that internet domains already possess inherent scarcity, consistent real-world usage, and measurable economic value, making them a strong fit for tokenization. With this collaboration, D3 and InterNetX aim to establish domains as a flagship RWA category for the Solana ecosystem while accelerating the transition of Web2 infrastructure toward an on-chain future.
