EnCirca and DOMA Bring DNS-Compatible Domains Into Web3

EnCirca, an ICANN-accredited registrar, has partnered with DOMA to introduce a service that converts traditional domain names into verifiable digital assets while maintaining full compatibility with the existing Domain Name System. The companies stated that this new model allows domain owners to extend their registered names into blockchain environments without disrupting current DNS functionality or delegated services. According to EnCirca, the platform currently supports tokenization for roughly 97% of the world’s 380 million domain names, spanning nearly all major gTLDs and new TLDs. The firm also mentioned that it offers low-cost test domains so users can experiment with the system at an accessible entry point.

The offering treats tokenized domains as portable, cryptographically verifiable digital identifiers that owners can use across decentralized applications. Instead of creating or relying on separate blockchain naming systems, the service enables users to leverage familiar DNS-anchored identities. Under this setup, users control digital identities through cryptographic keys rather than large platform accounts, enabling them to link their domains directly to Web3 services such as DeFi platforms and decentralized applications. The domain name itself replaces lengthy wallet addresses, establishing a human-readable identity whose authenticity is confirmed simultaneously in both traditional and decentralized ecosystems. Importantly, tokenization applies only to the customer’s existing domain, preserving all DNS features and service delegations without alteration.

Lowering Barriers for Web3 and Non-Web3 Users

EnCirca designed the onboarding experience so that participation does not require cryptocurrency. Instead, the process depends on a digital wallet structure. Experienced blockchain users can connect a self-custodied wallet or request a dedicated one from EnCirca. Newcomers are provided with a managed wallet to simplify their entry into decentralized identity management, ensuring that individuals with no prior blockchain experience can still participate. This approach is intended to support both Web3-native communities and domain owners who are just beginning to explore decentralized identifiers.


DOMA’s technology is engineered to work in alignment with existing DNS and ICANN policies. The company emphasized that its system avoids the drawbacks commonly associated with blockchain-based naming alternatives. The platform maintains the single authoritative DNS root, enables verification through DNSSEC, eliminates the risk of conflicting namespace structures, and operates fully within recognized internet governance frameworks. Through this architecture, the EnCirca–DOMA collaboration is positioned not as a replacement for DNS but as an added blockchain-based identity layer designed to enhance ownership verification, security, and interoperability.

A Standards-Based Approach to Blockchain Identity

DOMA co-founder and CEO Fred Hsu highlighted the importance of this standards-driven direction. He noted that EnCirca has long been viewed as an innovator within the DNS sector and suggested that the integration with DOMA enables the registrar to offer secure, policy-aligned blockchain capabilities to its customer base. His remarks underscored the belief that Web3 identity systems must operate within established standards rather than existing as fragmented or competing namespaces.

With this initiative, EnCirca and DOMA aim to create a unified method for linking established domain identities to decentralized ecosystems. By ensuring that domain tokenization does not interfere with DNS operations while simultaneously expanding utility into blockchain applications, the model provides a bridge between traditional internet infrastructure and emerging Web3 environments. The partnership signals a move toward a more standardized and interoperable identity layer capable of supporting future digital services across both centralized and decentralized platforms.
