Gaming Giant Ubisoft Enters Tezos Network as a Corporate Validator

France based gaming focused company Ubisoft has made an entry into the Tezos blockchain network in the form of a corporate baker. Ubisoft, which is popular for games such as Assasin’s Creed, is collaborating with Nomadic Labs on the efforts. The firm aims to additionally study the chances offered by blockchain technology.

Contradictory to proof-of-work protocol based blockchain networks such as Bitcoin, Tezos does not require any miners. Instead, the blockchain deploys a liquid proof of stake protocol where bakers verify trades and confirm (add) to the Tezos public blockchain.

The list of notable firms that perform the function of validators on Tezos blockchain include Binance, Coinbase, Bitfinex and Kraken.

Ubisoft has collaborated with Nomadic Labs, a well-known research and development firm focused on the Tezos network. The Paris, France-based Nomadic Labs has associated itself with several firms to facilitate in the integration of Tezos blockchain for their business requirements.

Michel Mauny, president of the Nomadic Labs president said, “This announcement proves once again that the Tezos ecosystem is one of the most active in the world. We are delighted to have worked with the Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab on their exploration of Tezos.”

He further stated:

“Ubisoft is one of the first large companies to show interest in blockchain technology by testing several protocols through the years and we are happy to welcome them in our ecosystem. Their experience and vision will be an asset in the Tezos community.”

Ubisoft is one of the most popular gaming firms in the world, with video game titles such as Far Cry, Prince of Persia, Rayman, Watch Dogs and Rabbids. The firm’s exceptional title is Assasin’s Creed, which has recorded sales of 140 million copies across the globe, transforming it as one of the top selling video game titles in the history of online games. The firm is thrilled to position itself as a corporate baker on Tezos, as per the firm’s blockchain initiative director Nicolas Pouard.

“Ubisoft believes that blockchain has the potential to bring new possibilities to players and developers alike, and this new collaboration will allow us to pursue our innovation efforts with an ecosystem that aligns with our environmental-friendly approach thanks to its proof-of-stake consensus algorithm.”

The French enterprise has done an in-depth study of blockchain technology in the years before. Three years back, Ubisoft has rolled out a model of Hashcraft, a Minecraft motivated blockchain technology based treasure hunting game. Hashcraft is decentralized, implying that it functions on distributed computing power of all gamers and not on central servers like other popular games.

Ubisoft was also the foremost gaming enterprise on Ultra’s, a distributed ledger technology based platform involved in the distribution of games. Nicolas Gilot, the CEO and founder of Ultra, pointed out at the time:

“Their [Ubisoft] years-long dedication to exploring blockchain technology ensures they have the knowledge and skills to be excellent block producers.”
