Gemini Enables Direct XRP Transfers for Singapore Users

Ripple XRP Ledger

Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has expanded XRP transfer capabilities for eligible users in Singapore by enabling direct deposits and withdrawals through the XRP Ledger, or XRPL. The move allows customers to transfer XRP between their Gemini accounts and external XRPL addresses without relying on additional conversion or intermediary steps.

The integration gives Singapore users a direct route for moving XRP on the XRP Ledger, potentially reducing transfer costs, processing times and the complexity involved in sending assets outside the exchange.

The announcement comes as Singapore continues to develop its role as a major financial and digital-asset center in Asia. Cryptocurrency businesses operating in the country are subject to oversight and licensing requirements established by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, making the expansion significant for exchanges seeking to broaden regulated digital-asset services in the region.

Gemini expands direct XRP access

Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss announced the development on Aug. 25, highlighting its relevance to XRP users across Asia. The update means eligible Singapore customers can now transfer XRP directly between Gemini accounts and external addresses on the XRPL.

Previously, users who wanted to move XRP outside the exchange could face additional procedures depending on the destination and available transfer routes. Direct XRPL support simplifies the process by allowing XRP to be sent to compatible external wallets and other addresses operating on the same network.

The development could also make it easier for users to retain control of their assets through self-custody wallets. Once XRP is transferred to a compatible external address, users can access services operating within the broader XRPL ecosystem without first converting the asset into another cryptocurrency.

Lower costs and faster settlement

One of the primary advantages of using the XRP Ledger is its focus on fast and relatively inexpensive transactions. XRPL transactions can typically settle within a few seconds, allowing users to move funds considerably faster than some blockchain networks that experience congestion or higher transaction costs.

For Gemini customers in Singapore, direct network access could reduce the need for additional transactions and asset conversions. Avoiding unnecessary conversions can help users limit trading-related expenses while also simplifying the process of transferring XRP between centralized exchanges and external blockchain applications.

Direct XRPL transfers could allow users to move XRP to self-custody wallets, decentralized exchanges, and other compatible applications without first converting the asset into another digital currency.

The broader effect could be greater participation in the XRPL ecosystem. Users who can transfer XRP directly may have more opportunities to interact with decentralized applications and other blockchain-based services that support the network.

XRP gains momentum

The Gemini announcement coincided with a rise in the XRP token price. XRP gained about 2% following the news, adding to a weekly increase of roughly 50%, according to the information provided.

The price movement comes amid broader interest in XRP and developments surrounding its underlying ecosystem. However, the immediate market reaction does not necessarily indicate a direct causal relationship between Gemini’s transfer update and XRP’s price performance.

The move has also attracted positive attention from members of the XRP community. Crypto researcher Ripple Bull Winkle reportedly viewed the integration as a constructive development for XRP users in Asia, particularly as exchanges expand access to direct blockchain transfers.

Singapore remains a key digital-asset market

Singapore’s position as a financial hub makes developments involving regulated cryptocurrency services particularly relevant. The country has established a regulatory framework for digital-payment token services, while the Monetary Authority of Singapore continues to oversee businesses operating in the sector.

Gemini’s latest expansion could strengthen its ability to serve XRP users in the market while demonstrating how centralized exchanges can connect more directly with blockchain networks.

By enabling direct XRP deposits and withdrawals through XRPL, Gemini is reducing friction between centralized exchange accounts and the wider XRP ecosystem for eligible Singapore customers.

The development may encourage further integration between exchanges and blockchain networks as users increasingly seek faster settlement, lower costs and greater control over digital assets. Its broader impact will depend on adoption, regulatory conditions and the continued growth of services built around the XRP Ledger.
