Logistics Solutions Provider Portbase to Utilize TradeLens Blockchain Platform to Manage Dutch Ports

Portbase, Netherlands based logistics solutions provider, has successfully finished the first stage of their integration with TradeLens, a blockchain powered platform. Collectively, they will administer overall functioning and core procedures for Rotterdam and Amsterdam ports.

As per media release, both Portbase and TradeLens anticipate to develop a global ecosystem of ports, carriers and terminals via a digital port framework administration platform. In the months ahead, these overhauls will be strengthened by blockchain framework of TradeLens.

Iwan van der Wolf, managing director of Portbase, detailed how blockchain is being utilized to more clearly handle the company’s functioning:

“It allows all players in the logistical chain to easily, quickly, and securely share data with each other, irrespective of their mutual relationship, enhancing trade for everyone involved. Portbase acts as a data hub for global trade via the Dutch ports and facilitates the connection to regional networks in Northwest Europe.”

Norbert Kouwenhoven, IBM’s TradeLens Global Authorities Leader, stated that the selected platform “allows for upscaling ‘with a mouse click’ and can be easily expanded” as the extent of services rises.

Of late, the Port of Rotterdam rolled out a blockchain powered trial with several major shipping firms across the globe. The objective of the trial is to enhance the security and handling capability of the millions of containers that are off-loaded in the port annually.
