The Malaysian Ministry of Education stated that the E-Skrol blockchain app, which enables verification of originality of Malaysian educational degrees, is now offered for all private and public universities in the nation.
The E-Skrol app intends to manage the rising incidents of bogus educational degrees, which can be bought online from the so-called diploma mills.
Dr. Maszlee Malik, Education Minister of Malaysia stated that the sale of dubious degrees is having a negative impact on the country’s higher education system.
“There are people who latch on to the reputation of Malaysian public universities to improve their profiles by displaying fake certificates. I believe the blockchain application can change this situation.’
Furthermore, the education minister stated that any individual, anywhere on earth, can validate the info of anyone graduated from a Malaysian university, including name, transliteration, date of graduation and degree class by scanning the QR code, which are printed on the certificates.
Back in June 2019, the Malaysian government unveiled a work visa program to attract blockchain experts across the globe. The program intends to lure overseas professionals and permit them to stay for a maximum of 12 months to offer blockchain linked services or complete training at a Malaysian enterprise.
Norhizam Abdul Kadir, vice-president of MDEC growth ecosystem development, said, “We will be kicking it off starting with blockchain jobs. The number of visas to be issued depends on the projects that will be run by blockchain companies in Malaysia.”
