Sony-Backed Soneium Brings Sleepagotchi to 200M Line Users

Sleepagotchi Lite

Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), in collaboration with Startale Group, has introduced a new phase of blockchain-powered mobile gaming through the launch of Sleepagotchi Lite on the Line Mini app. This move aims to expand the reach of the viral Telegram game, Sleepagotchi, by integrating it into Line’s massive user base of over 200 million active users. The deployment is built on Soneium, Sony’s Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, which serves as the technological foundation for this rollout.

The original version of Sleepagotchi attracted more than two million users on Telegram, positioning itself as a breakout title in the Web3 mobile space. With the integration on Line, the developers seek to tap into a broader audience and provide seamless onboarding into blockchain experiences. SBSL’s leadership explained that Soneium was created to enhance accessibility and immersion, aligning well with platforms like Line Mini and games such as Sleepagotchi, which share a user-centric vision. The collaboration is expected to help bring the game’s unique mechanics to a substantially larger demographic.

The new Sleepagotchi Lite version serves as a prelude to the upcoming Sleepagotchi 2.0, allowing users to accumulate in-game points throughout the day, independent of sleep tracking features. These points will carry over into the full release, offering early engagement incentives. This lighter edition retains the franchise’s recognizable identity but removes the original sleep-monitoring elements, making it more accessible and enjoyable at any time of day.

Gameplay in Sleepagotchi Lite includes card-based battles, collectible elements, and global community interactions, all delivered in short, engaging sessions. The game draws significant inspiration from Japanese culture, evident in its art style and game mechanics, and has resonated particularly well with users in Japan. Developers noted that Japan’s consistently low average sleep duration made it an early hub for community engagement. They indicated that the cultural appeal and game design were both tailored to expand interest among Japanese and global audiences alike.

Users can access the game either directly through the Line Mini app or via a web browser by logging in with their Line or Telegram credentials. The payment infrastructure supports USDC and ASTR tokens on the Soneium chain, enabling players to engage with blockchain features effortlessly, without the steep learning curve usually associated with Web3 applications.

Sony has reported substantial growth on the Soneium network, with more than 100 consumer and gaming applications launched to date. These include a broad range of interactive and on-chain experiences that contribute to the platform’s ecosystem. Most of these applications are currently active, enriching the platform’s overall user engagement and transaction volume.

In terms of network activity, Soneium is currently processing between one million and 1.5 million transactions daily. The platform boasts over seven million wallet addresses and has surpassed $200 million in total value locked (TVL), indicating significant traction within the decentralized application (dApp) space.

By leveraging the popularity of Line and the proven success of Sleepagotchi, Soneium is aiming to lower the barriers to blockchain adoption through engaging, culturally resonant content. The integration not only enhances Soneium’s visibility in the mobile gaming sector but also positions it as a gateway to mainstream Web3 experiences, particularly in regions where mobile-first engagement is dominant.
