Stripe Expands USDC and OUSD Payouts to 160+ Markets Through Base

Stripe has expanded its stablecoin payment capabilities by enabling U.S. businesses to send USD Coin (USDC) and OUSD payouts through the Base blockchain to cryptocurrency wallets across more than 160 markets. The development adds another payment option to Stripe Global Payouts, allowing businesses to transfer digital dollar-denominated assets internationally, with transactions typically arriving within minutes.

The new functionality enables eligible U.S. businesses to distribute USDC and OUSD directly from their existing Stripe Treasury balances. Companies can initiate payments using either fiat currency or stablecoin balances, while Stripe manages the required currency conversion before processing the transfers.

The integration allows businesses to send USDC and OUSD directly to cryptocurrency wallets across more than 160 markets through Base, reducing the time traditionally associated with international payouts.

Stripe Simplifies Stablecoin-Based International Transfers

The expansion builds on Stripe’s efforts to integrate stablecoins into conventional business payment infrastructure. Through Global Payouts, companies can use a familiar payment platform to distribute funds internationally without independently managing the underlying blockchain transaction process.

Businesses can fund payouts through their Stripe Treasury balances, giving them flexibility in choosing between traditional currency and stablecoin holdings. When payments are initiated from fiat balances, Stripe handles the necessary conversion into the selected digital asset.

Recipients receive the stablecoins directly in their cryptocurrency wallets. This approach provides an alternative to conventional cross-border payment methods, which can involve multiple financial institutions, intermediary processing arrangements, and settlement delays.

The ability to complete transfers within minutes could be particularly relevant for companies managing international contractors, suppliers, business partners and other recurring payment obligations.

Base Provides Blockchain Infrastructure for Payouts

The new payout functionality uses Base, an Ethereum layer-2 blockchain designed to support faster and more cost-efficient transactions. By utilizing this network, Stripe can facilitate stablecoin transfers without requiring businesses to build their own blockchain payment infrastructure.

USDC, issued by Circle, is a stablecoin designed to maintain a value equivalent to the U.S. dollar. OUSD is another dollar-denominated stablecoin that provides businesses and users with an additional digital asset option for transferring value.

Supporting both assets gives businesses greater flexibility when selecting the stablecoin they want to distribute. The integration also connects Stripe’s existing financial infrastructure with blockchain-based payment settlement, potentially making digital assets more accessible to companies that do not specialize in cryptocurrency operations.

By managing conversion and payout processing within its existing infrastructure, Stripe reduces the technical complexity businesses face when adopting stablecoin-based international payments.

Stablecoins Gain Ground in Business Payments

The expansion comes as payment companies increasingly explore stablecoins as an alternative infrastructure for international money movement. Their blockchain-based settlement capabilities can offer faster transfers and broader accessibility compared with some traditional cross-border payment arrangements.

For businesses operating across multiple countries, faster settlement can improve cash flow management and reduce uncertainty surrounding payment completion. Stablecoin payouts may also provide recipients with greater flexibility in holding or transferring digital dollar-denominated assets.

However, access to the service and the availability of supported payout destinations remain subject to applicable regulatory requirements and Stripe’s operational coverage.

Stripe‘s latest expansion strengthens the connection between traditional financial services and blockchain payment networks, positioning stablecoins as an increasingly practical option for international business transactions.

With USDC and OUSD payouts now supported through Base across more than 160 markets, Stripe is extending the potential reach of blockchain-based payments while allowing businesses to continue using its established treasury and payout infrastructure.
