Top Executive of Crypto Capital Indicted on Fraud Charges by US Court

An executive of Crypto Capital, Oz Yosef, was indicted by a New York court. In particular, the attorney for the Southern District of New York was charged with conspiracy to execute swindling of bank and carry out an unlicensed money remitting business.

The document related to court filing indicates that the US authorities have arrested Oz Yosef on allegations of multiple finance related conspiracies.

Furthermore, the arrest seems to affirm charges made by cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, indicating that it was a victim of fraud orchestrated by Crypto Capital, which had earlier acted as the payments processor for Bitfinex.

Notably, the New York Attorney General’s office had earlier stated that Bitfinex was swindled roughly $850 million and then got funds from its associate Tether, which offers USDT stable coin, in an effort to conceal the missing funds.

Nevertheless, Bitfinex further claimed that Crypto Capital had split and diverted funds to multiple bank accounts in several nations. By doing that, Crypto Capital has made it incredibly difficult to trace the funds.

Bitfinex further states that Crypto Capital had handled funds its behalf for many years. Additionally, the firm also stated that it believed the claims made by Crypto Capital. Bitfinex highlighted the misleading claims made by Oz Yosef.

Bitfinex elaborated on the deceptive measures adopted by Crypto Capital:

“Among those misrepresentations, Crypto Capital regularly referred to its integrity, banking expertise, robust compliance programme and financial licences. This was designed to assure us that Crypto Capital was capable of handling Bitfinex’s transactions.”

Bitfinex has categorically denied allegations that Crypto Capital laundered illegal funds at its behest. The outright rejection has come at a time when Crypto Capital is facing issues at globally.

Actually, the president of Crypto Capital, Ivan Manuel Molina Lee, was arrested by Polish officials four days back. The arrest was based on allegations of financial crime i.e., money laundering and being a part of “international drug cartel”.

Per se, Lee has been arrested using a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Wroclaw prosecutor’s administrative office. Additionally, Lee’s detention is said to be associated to roughly $350 million confiscated by the Polish Ministry of Justice.
