Two Italian high schools will start offering unalterable and easily shareable digital diplomas using Ethereum blockchain.
The initiative intends to improve transparency in the process of issuance and tracking of diplomas, in addition to end the issue of fake diplomas that have plagued the country.
The schools which have initiated the process are internazionali di Villa Flaminia in Rome and l’Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “M. Ciliberto – A. Lucifero” in Crotone.
While the Rome based school will utilize a blockchain based platform offered by EY company, the Crotone based school is collaborating with Blockchain Italia.
Regarding the endeavor Maria Chiara Sidori, head of Rome’s high school institute, said:
“This project can contribute to the elimination of information asymmetries with other bodies by allowing universities and companies to verify the veracity of the qualification claimed by any candidate.”
The blockchain technology will permit educational institutions to endorse all the data related to the student, the courses they are enrolled, and thus offers them individualized follow-up, without allowing the possibility of altering the registry.
As per Sidori, this suggestion will assist in improving the effectiveness of teaching techniques that includes regular interaction between the teacher and the student. The process also happens in real-time.
Unfortunately, the news has come at a time when the country grapples with coronavirus outbreak. With Italy recording loss of more than 1,000 lives, Europe has become the epicenter of the pandemic.
It can be remembered that Odem, which offers education via blockchain based platform, has rolled out a platform for Italian schools and Universities impacted by the Coronavirus.
