Walt Disney’s Indian Division to Unveil Metaverse Platform During IPL 2023 Season

Following months of establishing the proof of concept, Disney Star, the India division of the American media behemoth Walt Disney Corporate, is preparing to formally launch its metaverse portal Starverse, according to a senior company executive.

The introduction of Starverse corresponds with the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The metaverse platform will allow Disney Star to improve its digital experience for sports fans since the use of second screens when streaming real-time sports is quite prevalent.

“Our metaverse is named the Starverse, and its first implementation is a 3D environment for sports fans. The sports genre offers itself naturally to multiplatform, multimodal, and community experiences “Sanjog Gupta, chief of sports at Disney Star, said ET. He noted that the Starverse proof of concept (poc) was used during the Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup in 2022.

According to Gupta, Disney Star is collaborating with numerous firms to build the Starverse, and “three separate companies are working on the technology backbone, 3D models & settings, and gamification of the interaction.”
