Wipro Unveils Blockchain-Powered Identity and Credential Platform

Wipro Lab45, the creativity centre of a global systems administrator and solution provider Wipro, presented the new Decentralized Identity and Credential Exchange (DICE ID), on Wednesday. DICE ID is a blockchain-based platform that enables users to safely and swiftly distribute private data online. According to Varun Dube, general manager of the DICE ID platform, DICE ID allows organizations to issue unalterable digital credentials.

Dube explained CRN that digital credentials require a return to the issuing organization for verification. “This is a long and costly procedure. With DICE ID, however, you receive documents that can be validated without having to visit the issuing organization.” For example, according to Dube, if a job seeker makes a claim to have a master’s degree in engineering, an employer would need to get in touch with the school to authenticate this claim. He stated that DICE ID would eradicate the requirement for this manual procedure. Wipro is ranked fifteenth on the CRN Solution Provider 500 for 2022.

DICE ID was developed by Wipro Lab45 and discreetly released as an open platform in August of 2022, according to Dube. “Presently, if anyone assigns a credential to our portal, any other organization on the platform can rapidly verify it,” he explained. Dube stated that blockchain technology is vital for the procedure.

“The actual credentials are not retained in blockchain,” he explained. This would render them public. Rather, we utilize blockchain to record the format of the credentials, and the certificates themselves are therefore extremely confidential. When a credential is validated on DICE ID, the form of the credential is interpreted from the blockchain. Dube stated that a blockchain-powered solution for releasing and validating credentials could have a broad range of uses. According to him, the Bengaluru, India-headquartered firm already has health insurers, academic institutions, and businesses seeking to validate freelancers utilizing DICE ID to authenticate customer data and qualifications, respectively.

“We anticipate distinct habitats on the platform,” he explained. Dube stated that Wipro’s DICE ID platform is free for a maximum of 200,000 activities, after which consumers will be required to pay for usage. He explained that users can either incorporate Wipro’s APIs for issuance and validating credentials or take part in the company’s ecosystem to gain entry to production-primed Docker containers.

He stated that Wipro anticipates improving the customer experience of the DICE ID application in the future. Wipro has a long track record of offering blockchain-powered systems worldwide, including assisting oil and gas enterprises with hydrocarbon deals and healthcare and pharmaceutical organizations with supply chain management.
