Yield Guild Steps into Web3 Publishing with LOL Land Launch

Yield Guild Games (YGG)

Yield Guild Games Association (YGG), known for pioneering the Web3 guild model, has officially entered the game publishing arena with the release of its first title, LOL Land. This launch also marks the debut of YGG Play, a new division dedicated to delivering light-hearted and addictive gaming experiences inspired by the eccentric culture of crypto communities.

The newly formed YGG Play initiative has been framed as a step toward shaping a new category in gaming, which the organization refers to as “Casual Degen.” The term reflects a fusion of laid-back gameplay with the vibrant, meme-driven world of decentralized finance. The flagship game LOL Land, a browser-based board game, integrates characters from the Pudgy Penguins NFT community and managed to amass over 116,000 pre-registrations ahead of its launch on the Abstract Chain.

Players engaging with LOL Land can accumulate points, unlock NFTs, and compete for a portion of a prize pool backed by YGG tokens, which was funded on May 1 and valued at $10 million. The game offers two modes: a free-to-play version with unlimited rolls but no token rewards, and a premium mode that allows players to buy enhanced rolls, which can lead to YGG token payouts. The game is restricted to adults and is only accessible in eligible countries.

YGG cofounder Gabby Dizon has emphasized that this move into publishing is the culmination of years of firsthand gaming experience. Over the last four years, the organization has tested and invested in a broad spectrum of Web3 titles, which informed its understanding of what captivates players and what elements typically fall short. The creation of YGG Play and the development of LOL Land were described as a strategic application of these insights, with the goal of serving the unique preferences of the Web3-native audience.

LOL Land currently features four themed boards—YGG City, Beach Day, Carnival, and Ice World Wonderland—each offering distinct gameplay mechanics. The Pudgy Penguins theme, in particular, enables players to choose avatars modeled after notable members of the Pudgy community, including recognizable figures such as Aaron Teng, KP, and Burnasso. Additional themes, including Pirate Cove and Parkside Story, are reportedly in development.

The game is hosted exclusively on the Abstract Chain, a platform built by Igloo Inc., the parent company of Pudgy Penguins. Designed to simplify onboarding for Web3 users, Abstract Chain supports features like social logins and passkeys, aiming to reduce friction for newcomers. The platform has already seen successful launches of other games such as Myriad, Roach Racing Club, and Gacha, and now supports the YGG token as well.

Dizon has portrayed YGG’s transition into publishing as a logical progression, highlighting the organization’s deep ties to the crypto-native gaming community. With a Discord community exceeding 112,000 members and over 300,000 users having interacted with its Guild Advancement Program, YGG appears to possess the infrastructure to bootstrap new games effectively. The organization also supports a global network of guilds, including partners across Southeast Asia, Latin America, North America, and Europe.

He has further suggested that the broader Web3 gaming market remains underserved, especially for users who are more engaged in crypto culture than in traditional gaming. These “Casual Degens”—individuals who enjoy minting NFTs, trading tokens, or engaging in meme coin frenzies—represent a much larger segment of the Web3 user base than hardcore gamers. YGG aims to serve this demographic by developing games that combine simplicity, entertainment, and real-world rewards.

As a network of creators, players, and onchain guilds, YGG continues to redefine how communities interact with digital games. With LOL Land, the organization has taken a decisive step toward bridging the gap between crypto culture and casual entertainment.
