Brazil Footballer Ronaldinho Launches Football Focused Crypto Project

Brazillian football star Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, popularly known as ‘Ronaldinho‘ is joining the crypto bandwagon by launching a cryptocurrency project related to his profession.

The goal of the project is to launch a football academy (training centre), conduct amateur and global league matches across the globe, build and operate a sports betting platform and a marketplace from the scratch, and create digital VR stadiums to assess player skills and establish a blockchain database that will assist in assembling new teams.

The entire ecosystem is referred as “Planet RSC“.

Ronaldinho Soccer Coin Project

To realize the vision, Ronaldinho is raising funds through an ICO. The cryptocurrency to be offered is Ronaldinho Soccer Coin (RSC). The token will be built using NEO blockchain platform. The Ronaldinho coin project is developed in partnership with the World Soccer Coin (WSC), a Malta-based startup.

A total of 350 million RSC coins will be offered to investors. Out of the total supply, 150 million will be offered in a private sale, which is due to begin in a few days. The project’s whitepaper is not yet available.

Notably, in February, Ronaldinho tweeted about the upcoming project to his 18.1 million strong followers

Ironically, the latest announcement about the project was made on July 7, 2018, a day after Brazil’s football team lost to Belgium in the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup. As many as 300 digital VR stadiums will be built in Africa, S.E. Asia, and the Middle East over the next three years.

According to the roadmap, two stadiums will be completed by this month in Asia, with operations to begin before this year end. The RSC project has also entered into an alliance with five existing stadiums in South East Asia. The project will also advance development of the VR and virtual services technologies that will improve the eSports facility.

Furthermore, the Ronaldinho Academy is planned to be launched in March 2019. In addition to the above, stadiums in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam will be ready for use in 2019. An eSports tournament is also planned to be held in Bangkok in July next year. The NEO smart contract platform will ensure fair play in services such as betting, eSports, and academy enrollment.

Commenting on the project Ronaldinho said

“Ever since I thought of retiring, I started to think about my life after retirement. I wish to contribute to the world as much as I can.”

Ronaldinho, however, is not the first sports player to enter a cryptocurrency project. Centra token project, which was brought to a halt by SEC on the basis of fraud charges, was endorsed by Floyd Mayweather, world champion in boxing. Notably, celebrities like Dj Khaled gave their endorsements through social media before the charges were filed.

NBA star Stephen Curry also showed interest in entering the crypto space by launching a range of custom designed Cryptokitties earlier this year. However, the CurryKitties project is now longer live.
