CryptoKitties Developers Dapper Labs Receives Patent for NBA Based Tokenized Collectibles

Dapper Labs, which developed the blockchain powered game CryptoKitties, has received a patent in Brazil that paves way for the creation of collectible digital tokens in collaboration with the National Basketball Association (NBA).

As per Intellectual Property Magazine of Rio de Janeiro, published on March 24, Dapper Labs has been given the right to utilize NBA brand, in addition to images of games and players for its tokenized collectibles in the South American country.

The program, named “NBA Top Shot”, will permit basketball buffs to have a lot of communications with their beloveds by utilizing these participating tokens associated to games and player agreements.

This is not the first time the blockchain company has joined hands with a top sports institution. The CryptoKitties developer also announced collaboration with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to rollout tokenized MMA Tamagotchis on February 25.

Sports enthusiasts across the globe are witnessing their beloved teams beginning to adopt blockchain technology to communicate with them.

In the US, Sports firm Chiliz is presently utilizing its Socios platform to offer interaction tokens for franchises in National Football League and Major League Baseball.

Similarly, NBA’s Sacramento Kings, in partnership with blockchain development company ConsenSys, rolled out a real-time bidding for team gear in January.

In Europe, Italian soccer team Juventus announced February 19 they would be providing digital trading cards representing their players via the blockchain powered platform Sorare.

Lancashire Cricket Club in the UK has begun offering tickets via blockchain powered ticketing platform TIXnGO at the start of 2020 in an attempt to end duplicate tickets.
