The match, played at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, saw the Netherlands win 5-0. As per Ajax Life, KNVB used the match to test its latest blockchain app structured to fight ticket fraud and sales in black market.
The solution involves providing ticket PDFs and permitting entry into the stadium through an app. On the play day, a barcode to turn on visitors’ entry into the stadium gets activated only at a precise time and within a particular radius of the stadium.
The provision makes it impossible to sell a ticket numerous times.
Ajax Life has reported that if the blockchain trial turns out to be successful, then the solution will be further improved and scaled up with the backing of the European Regional Development Fund.
Both KNVB and AFC Ajax were partakers in building a chain of innovative tools for testing during yesterday’s match, under the program named “Change the Game Challenge,” jointly started with the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Last month, Shubert Organization, the largest ticket operator in Broadway, disclosed its intention to trial an IBM blockchain backed mobile ticketing platform and is looking at the option of incorporating the product in its business in the time ahead.
Notably, Socios.com, a blockchain powered platform, has collaborated with several top clubs, including Italy’s Juventus, French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain, and London-based West Ham United, to unveil fan tokens based on club brands.
