MetaMask Adds Sei to Streamline Cross-Chain Web3 Access

MetaMask, the widely used self-custodial Web3 wallet developed by Consensys, has formally announced the integration of Sei, a rapidly expanding Layer-1 blockchain. This strategic move brings native support for the Sei network into the MetaMask ecosystem, allowing users to engage directly with Sei’s decentralized applications (dApps) and native assets without needing to leave the wallet interface. With this latest addition, MetaMask now supports a total of 11 blockchain networks, further advancing its goal of offering a seamless multi-chain user experience.

Through this integration, users can now find a dedicated Sei page within the MetaMask Portfolio. This section provides curated access to Sei-based dApps, tokens, NFTs, and games. Moreover, users can perform native swaps and bridge assets directly to the Sei network or even purchase Sei tokens from within the wallet. The integration has been designed to minimize friction, allowing users to explore the Sei ecosystem with greater ease while reducing the risks typically associated with decentralized network interactions, such as scams and malicious contracts.

The move directly addresses one of Web3’s persistent issues—cross-chain interoperability. By embedding Sei into its infrastructure, MetaMask has significantly simplified access to emerging blockchain ecosystems, eliminating the need for third-party bridges or unfamiliar wallet interfaces. This approach not only enhances user experience but also improves security by keeping users within a trusted environment.

Recent metrics underscore the relevance of this integration. Data indicates that Sei has witnessed a notable surge in on-chain activity, registering more than 4.2 million transactions per day. In addition, the network’s total value locked has surpassed $600 million, and its monthly active user count has reached approximately 11 million. These figures reflect growing demand for Sei’s high-throughput, low-latency blockchain infrastructure, which has made a strong impression within just a year of launching Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility.

By incorporating Sei into its list of supported chains, MetaMask is offering its vast global user base direct access to a rapidly scaling EVM ecosystem. For Sei, the integration represents a significant opportunity to extend its reach, leveraging MetaMask’s established credibility and widespread adoption in the Web3 space.

The addition of Sei is part of MetaMask’s broader strategy to position itself as a comprehensive Web3 portal. The wallet is increasingly transforming into a centralized platform where users can manage all their decentralized finance (DeFi), NFT, and Web3 gaming activities across multiple blockchains from a single interface.

Representatives from both MetaMask and the Sei Development Foundation have emphasized the mutual benefits of the integration. MetaMask’s leadership conveyed that this expansion reflects a user-centric approach to solving Web3’s accessibility issues by supporting emerging networks that offer real-world utility. On the other hand, the Sei Foundation described the partnership as a pivotal step toward providing its high-performance infrastructure to millions of new users, while reinforcing a frictionless onboarding experience.

With this integration, MetaMask continues to solidify its role in making decentralized technologies more approachable. The streamlined support for cross-chain operations enables a more connected and inclusive Web3 ecosystem, marking progress toward a decentralized internet that is both user-friendly and widely accessible.
