Pornhub Starts Accepting Tether Stablecoin as Payment

Pornhub, one of the popular adult entertainment website, has started accepting stable coin Tether (USDT) after PayPal stopped servicing the adult website without any notice in late 2019.

With the addition of Tether (USDT) – a US dollar pegged stable coin – as one of the payment options, users will be able to make real-time and zero-fee payments via TronLink, the crypto wallet and browser extension.

TronLink, native cryptocurrency wallet of Tron (TRX) blockchain, the 12th largest crypto by marketcap, is backed by Tron Foundation.

The USDT token, which is already the native crypto of Tether blockchain, is made available on the Tron network and the Tron Foundation collaborated and rolled out the first Tron blockchain hosted USDT tokens in April 2019.

To begin sending and receiving payments in Tether, Pornhub advocates downloading the Android or iOS version of TronLink wallet app. In addition to Tether, Pornhub is also backing a new payment processing platform named Cosmo Payment.

Justin Sun, CEO of Tron, revealed the info via a tweet. He stated that the latest crypto payment option is a better way to back “victims of centralized payment platforms like PayPal.”

The news has come soon after PayPal, one of the largest online payment solution providers, terminated its relationship with Pornhub in mid-November 2019. As per media reports, PayPal halted working with Pornhub after it sent funds without authorization.

The crypto community, on hearing the news report, started advocating the inclusion of Bitcoin (BTC) as a mode of payment on Pornhub. In the meantime, Pornhub models find it difficult to handle cryptos as they do not have adequate knowledge about them.

Pornhub has been continuously working to foster the use of cryptocurrencies on its platform. Last August, the adult video provider collaborated with cryptocurrency payment and billing firm PumaPay to facilitate crypto payments by users.

Two years before, Pornhub started accepting cryptocurrency Verge (XVG) as payment for Pornhub Premium and other goods offered on the platform. Following the announcement, the price of Verge surged, but soon fizzled out as large players started unwinding positions.
