JD.com Launches Open Blockchain Platform, Inks Deal With Unilever

JD.comJD.com has built an open blockchain platform to ensure customers can develop and run their own blockchain solutions. This Beijing headquartered e – commerce firm wants to enhance the transparency, efficiency and safety of its customers ‘ operations.

Named JD Blockchain Open platform, it empowers clients to simplify operations by giving the ability to monitor the transportation of their goods and complete settlement of transactions, among other things, in detail. Customers will also be able to amend smart contracts “on private and public business clouds effortlessly.”

China Pacific Insurance Company (CPIC) is the first JD.com associate to use open blockchain platforms. The newly set up JD Blockchain Open Platform consists of an application store that offers several Blockchain bottom layers, as well as other accessories and software created by Independent software firms and JD.com’s in-house programming team.

They assure to endlessly improve their application offerings by creating more ISVs and building a “robust ISVs community” on the platform.

Jian Pei, head of big data and smart supply chain at JD.com, has opined the following about the platform:

“JD Blockchain Open Platform is a culmination of the expertise and experience in blockchain technology that we initially developed for our own operations, to provide more visibility to consumers.”

Jian Pei further stated that they are pleased to have CIPC as JD.com’s first blockchain platform customer.

JD.com’s agreement with Unilever

Rotterdam-headquartered Unilever has entered into partnership with Beijing-based JD.com to expand in China. Unilever manufactures diversified products in beauty, personal care, and food merchandise divisions and is used by over 2.5 billion people every day. The firm is now planning to extend its operation in China.

JD.com’s collaboration with Unilever is part of its “Retail as a Service” tactic “in which the e-commerce firm is offering its technology and infrastructure to other companies and organizations outside of its own e-commerce platforms.”

JD.com’s platform is recognized for its ability to create several advanced supply chain technologies. The firm is now a member of the Blockchain in Transport Allowance (BiTA), which is the biggest blockchain alliance globally.
