AMC Theatres Accepts Cryptocurrencies as Payment for E-Gift Cards
In order to start supporting cryptocurrency payments before the end of this year, AMC Theatres in the United States is already launching bitcoin or other crypto based purchases of digital gift cards.
CEO Adam Aron said on Tuesday that AMC consumers may now purchase digital gift cards using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) straightforwardly via the AMC webpage, mobile app, and cinemas.
BitPay, a prominent cryptocurrency payments handling company, has unveiled a novel payment option that allows customers to buy e-cards worth a maximum of $200.
Among the cryptoassets allowed for AMC e-card transactions, Dogecoin (DOGE) caught the CEO’s eye. In September, Aron indicated that AMC will embrace DOGE as a form of payment for movie tickets before the end of this year.
Huge news Dogecoin fans! As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy @AMCTheatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a BitPay Wallet. To find out if AMC should allow DOGE payments for tickets, Aron polled 140,000 people on Twitter. AMC should take Dogecoin, like you’ve said. As a result, we must now devise a strategy to accomplish this. Aron had already warned, “Stay tuned.”
The business intends to take Bitcoin payments for movie tickets in August, as reported earlier by Aron, who expects the unique payment choice to be available to customers by 2022. Rest of the cryptocurrencies that the movie chain intends to support includes DOGE, Ether, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). The biggest movie theater business in Thailand, Major Cineplex Group, started a payment trial program earlier in 2020 that lets consumers pay using cryptocurrencies.
