NFL Partners Mythical Games for Blockchain Powered Games
The National Football League and the NFL Players Association have entered into a partnership with Mythical Games to develop the first blockchain-enabled National Football League video game. The game, which will be dubbed NFL Rivals, is scheduled to go live in the early part of the following year.
Participants will take on the role of general manager for their own squad and play against one another using their own rosters and teams. As part of the gameplay, players are given the opportunity to own, collect, and trade NFTs of their favorite players.
The NFL’s Senior Vice President of Consumer Products, Joe Ruggiero, said in a press release that the increasing popularity of NFTs and video gaming prompted the league to experiment with new gaming models. Before the official release of the game, a series of drops known as “Rarity League” will make available 32 unique non-fantasy items (NFTs) based on NFL players.
The owners of this collection will have access to exclusive events, in-game incentives, and other features. The Kraft Group, owner of the New England Patriots, as well as 32 Equity, the investment arm of the National Football League, were among the entities who participated in an investment round for Mythical Games that took place in the autumn of last year.
