Telegram Begins Username Auction Using TON Blockchain

The messaging service Telegram has announced the formal sales of its usernames on its novel blockchain-based marketplace, Telegram Open Network (TON). The week-long auction for the greatest usernames is now running on Fragment.

Individuals may now purchase short, memorable usernames for their individual accounts, public groups, and streams. Prevailing Telegram users cannot sell off their usernames, but in the long term they may be able to transform them into collectibles.

Telegram has started the sale of four- and five-letter nicknames in exchange for Toncoin, the native crypto of the TON network.

The ownership of such valuable ids is protected by TON’s immutable distributed ledger. Owners are able to add many nicknames to their individual account, team, or network.
