Crypto Exchange Binance CEO – Matching Engine is 10x Faster After Upgrade
Binance has finished an elaborate upgrade, further increasing the transaction processing ability of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, as per founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ).
The trading platform has supposedly re-written a major portion of the code and shifted (from C++) the matching engine to run on Fortran programming language.
It is claimed to be the largest upgrade in the past two years. Notably, with the upgrade in place, the matching engine is now 10 times more efficient in handling trades. CZ further stated that:
“[…] so in theory can handle 100x volume. But when real volumes hit, there will be some other peripheral systems that may temporarily bottleneck, but will be fixed quickly.”
This is the largest upgrade to date. We switched the matching engine to a new programming language (and re-wrote all code from scratch, as required). That’s as big an upgrade as you can get. 2 years in the making, all for faster performance. Readying for the next wave… #BUIDL
