Might & Magic Fates TCG

Ubisoft has announced a significant expansion of its iconic Might & Magic franchise through a new partnership with Immutable, a company recognized for its advanced Web3 infrastructure. The collaboration is set to result in the launch of Might & Magic: Fates, a blockchain-powered strategy card game designed for mobile platforms.

This upcoming release, slated for both iOS and Android, integrates traditional strategic gameplay with blockchain technology. According to details shared by the development teams, the game will enable players to engage in competitive, faction-based battles using customizable decks built from collectible NFT cards. The incorporation of blockchain not only enhances gameplay but also facilitates true digital ownership, allowing players to trade their assets through specialized marketplaces.

Customizable Decks and Fair Progression System

The gameplay model behind Might & Magic: Fates emphasizes skill-based competition where progression is driven primarily by in-game accomplishments. Players can collect cards and in-game currency by actively participating in matches and missions. This format ensures a fair and accessible environment for all participants.

Immutable’s Chief Studio Officer reportedly explained that the game is structured to be free-to-play, without rigid progression blocks that hinder player advancement. He indicated that players seeking to accelerate their progress or acquire specific cards have the option to do so via dedicated marketplaces. This dual approach allows for organic gameplay progression while supporting a thriving player-driven economy.

Building on Immutable’s Blockchain Legacy

Might & Magic: Fates leverages Immutable’s robust Web3 platform, the same infrastructure behind titles like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians. These games have previously showcased the potential of blockchain to grant players genuine ownership of in-game assets.

Gods Unchained, a digital trading card game, enables users to collect and trade unique NFT cards that can be used in online battles. This game has been operating on Immutable’s gas-free layer-2 infrastructure and is currently transitioning to Immutable zkEVM, a move aimed at enhancing its operational capabilities.

Guild of Guardians, another mobile title from Immutable, allows players to assemble teams of NFT-based heroes to explore and conquer dungeon environments. These projects highlight the effectiveness of blockchain in creating immersive, decentralized gaming experiences.

Ubisoft’s Broader Web3 Strategy

Ubisoft has emerged as one of the few major gaming companies actively exploring Web3 integrations within its game portfolio. In late 2024, the publisher launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria on Oasys’ Home Verse, a blockchain-powered layer-2 network tailored for Web3 gaming experiences.

Subsequently, Ubisoft partnered with the Arbitrum Foundation to release Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down shooter with integrated blockchain features. This title incorporated characters from various Ubisoft franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Rayman, and Watch Dogs, showcasing the company’s ambition to fuse established gaming universes with emerging decentralized technologies.

A New Chapter for Might & Magic

The development of Might & Magic: Fates signifies a noteworthy evolution in Ubisoft’s approach to game design, combining well-loved franchises with modern technological capabilities. As blockchain gaming continues to evolve, the company’s consistent efforts to adopt Web3 innovations position it as a forward-thinking player in the digital entertainment space. This latest initiative not only expands the reach of the Might & Magic brand but also redefines what strategic card games can offer in an increasingly digital and decentralized world.
