In a progressive move toward digital modernization, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG-N), has introduced a blockchain-powered ‘Vendor Registration Application.’ This initiative is part of the Army’s broader “Year of Transformation” agenda and marks a substantial shift toward a secure, transparent, and paperless system for vendor onboarding.
The platform is designed to overhaul the traditional, paperwork-heavy vendor registration mechanism by replacing it with a digitized, blockchain-based framework. This change is expected to significantly enhance transparency, improve processing speed, and reduce human intervention. The launch was formally announced by the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani, who highlighted its relevance in bolstering operational efficiency and logistics management.
Blockchain-Powered Efficiency and Verification
The Vendor Registration Application has been developed jointly by the Army’s Directorate General of Supplies and Transport and BISAG-N under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The system leverages blockchain’s immutable and tamper-proof architecture to create a more reliable and secure method of processing vendor registrations.
A standout feature of the application is its integration with national compliance and verification databases such as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Goods and Services Tax (GST), and Global Standards 1 (GS1). These integrations are facilitated through APIs, enabling real-time verification of vendor credentials and eliminating the need for redundant manual checks.
The platform offers a user-friendly interface that allows vendors to register digitally, track application status in real time, submit queries, and make corrections—all without interacting with bureaucratic channels or handling physical documents. The Indian Army indicated that the implementation of this app is anticipated to reduce registration and processing times by nearly half.

Supporting Small Businesses and Enhancing Accountability
Beyond technological advancement, the initiative reflects a strategic effort to democratize access to Army procurement contracts. By simplifying entry barriers, the system is tailored to encourage broader participation from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups, and other non-traditional vendors. This inclusivity is expected to enhance competition and foster innovation in the defense supply chain.
The Army Purchase Organisation (APO), which oversees the procurement of dry rations valued at approximately ₹14,000 crore annually, has already migrated its operations to the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. The new registration system is intended to complement this digital transition by onboarding dependable vendors more efficiently and concluding contracts with increased speed and transparency.
Strengthening Operational Readiness through Digital Transformation
Describing the app as more than just a software tool, Army officials underscored its role in reinforcing logistical resilience, accountability, and trust within procurement systems. The platform embodies the ethos of the Army Service Corps—Seva Asmakam Dharma—by aligning technology with service, ensuring readiness, and upholding institutional integrity.
By embracing blockchain for vendor onboarding, the Indian Army is not only simplifying logistics but also setting a benchmark for secure and transparent procurement in the public sector. The move is seen as a critical step toward building a digitally empowered defense ecosystem capable of responding efficiently to modern-day operational demands.
