Ripple has entered into a strategic collaboration with Wormhole, a move set to significantly broaden the interoperability of the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This partnership is expected to open direct access for XRPL to over 35 leading blockchain networks, enabling more than six million existing users of XRPL to seamlessly transfer digital assets across different chains using a unified, cross-chain architecture.
The integration spans both the XRPL mainnet and its EVM-compatible sidechain, thereby enhancing connectivity with major blockchain ecosystems such as Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, and Polygon. This development marks a significant milestone in Ripple’s mission to strengthen XRPL’s position as a versatile, enterprise-grade blockchain solution.
Expanding XRPL’s Reach with Wormhole
Wormhole, which already facilitates cross-chain functionality for over 200 decentralized applications and has handled more than USD 60 billion in asset transfers, will now enable XRP and other tokens native to XRPL to move frictionlessly across multiple blockchains. This enhanced mobility could eliminate long-standing barriers associated with blockchain silos, allowing for greater efficiency and expanded use cases for XRPL-based tokens.
Ripple has positioned this move as a major step toward developer and institutional enablement. The company indicated that by tapping into Wormhole’s infrastructure, XRPL is becoming more conducive to building decentralized applications that involve payments, real-world assets (RWAs), and decentralized finance (DeFi). Developers working on XRPL will now be able to transmit data between networks and initiate smart contract executions across multiple chains.
