Polygon Network Faces Temporary Finality Delays

Node disruptions impact some services but core operations continue

Polygon’s blockchain continues to operate normally with block production proceeding as expected, but users are experiencing a temporary delay in block finality. Finalization, which usually occurs within seconds, is currently taking around 10 to 15 minutes due to technical issues affecting certain Bor and Erigon nodes.

Despite this slowdown, checkpoint validation remains within the expected timeframe, and users can still monitor real-time activity through the Bor Mainnet tracker.

Node and RPC disruptions identified

The cause of the delay has been traced to disruptions in specific RPCs, which prevented a subset of nodes from advancing properly. This led to interruptions for some validators and RPC providers. Many of the affected nodes have since been restarted, restoring stability across much of the network.

However, a smaller number of nodes were required to roll back to the last finalized block, identified as block 76,273,070. These nodes are still undergoing synchronization. Polygon’s technical team has confirmed that a fix has been developed and is being gradually deployed to validators and service providers to resolve the issue fully.

Service impact across the ecosystem

The disruption has also affected certain services that rely on Polygon’s network. Polygonscan’s mainnet and OKLink explorers have been running slower than usual, while Alchemy Polygon has reported a partial outage. Other services, including Polygon Docs, Portal, Staking UI, zkEVM, Infura Polygon, and Quicknode, remain functional, though users may still notice occasional disruptions until all nodes complete synchronization.

UPDATE: Temporary Delay in Finality

While the chain continues to run and blocks and checkpoints are produced, there is currently a 10-15 minute delay in finality due to a milestone issue.

We have identified a fix, and it is being rolled out to all validators and service…

Polygon has reassured its community that the primary network continues to run smoothly, with checkpoint finality unaffected by the current situation. The team has emphasized that the slowdown is temporary and has committed to close monitoring until performance returns to normal.

Ongoing monitoring and updates

According to Polygon, the network remains secure and operational, with the current delays limited to finality rather than block production or checkpoint validation. The team has indicated that recovery is already underway as fixes are implemented across nodes.

To keep users informed, Polygon has pointed to its official status page as the central source for ongoing updates and progress reports. The company expects services and performance to stabilize completely once synchronization is finalized across all nodes.

Broader context

Finality delays can occur when node software experiences unexpected issues, causing some validators to lag behind in confirming the most recent blocks. While this does not typically compromise network security, it can create temporary inconvenience for applications and services built on the chain.

Polygon’s handling of the incident highlights the challenges blockchain networks face in maintaining seamless performance while supporting a wide ecosystem of validators, RPC providers, and third-party services. The proactive deployment of fixes and transparent communication indicates an emphasis on minimizing disruption for users.

As synchronization progresses and validators catch up, the network is expected to return to normal operating conditions, restoring the fast finality times that users have come to expect from Polygon.
