MoneyGram Launches Ramps on Solana for Global Cash Access

Single API Connects Solana Apps to MoneyGram’s Fiat Network

MoneyGram has launched its Ramps product on the Solana blockchain, expanding access to its global fiat on- and off-ramp infrastructure for developers building blockchain-based financial applications.

The integration allows developers to connect Solana wallets, applications and exchanges to MoneyGram’s cash network through a single application programming interface. The service supports cash deposits across more than 25 countries and withdrawals in more than 170 countries, potentially giving users a broader path between digital assets and local currencies.

MoneyGram Ramps enables developers to build crypto-to-cash and cash-to-crypto functionality without having to develop their own banking, compliance, or settlement infrastructure.

The launch represents a deeper expansion of MoneyGram’s involvement in the Solana ecosystem. The payments company had previously taken on a role as a validator and infrastructure partner on the network, indicating a longer-term interest in blockchain-based financial applications.

USDC Serves as the Main Bridge Asset

MoneyGram’s Ramps integration is centered on USD Coin, or USDC, rather than Solana’s native SOL token. USDC serves as the primary digital asset connecting blockchain transactions with MoneyGram’s fiat payment infrastructure.

Through the system, users can deposit or withdraw USDC using supported Solana-based applications and wallets. MoneyGram’s existing compliance and settlement capabilities then facilitate the movement between digital assets and cash.

The approach follows a model previously used by MoneyGram on the Stellar blockchain, where USDC also played a central role in connecting digital transactions with traditional cash networks.

The integration does not directly change SOL’s transaction flows or create a new mechanism for trading the token. However, increased use of Solana for financial applications could generate additional network activity over time and potentially strengthen the ecosystem surrounding SOL.

Developers Gain Access to Global Payment Infrastructure

MoneyGram Ramps is designed to reduce the technical and operational requirements associated with adding fiat functionality to blockchain applications. Developers can obtain API credentials, use a sandbox environment for testing, and access software development kits designed to simplify implementation.

The system also removes the need for direct banking integrations, which can otherwise require significant technical work, compliance resources and relationships with financial institutions.

MoneyGram operates a large global payment network, serving about 60 million active customers through nearly 500,000 retail locations. Connecting this infrastructure with Solana could allow developers to create applications that reach users who may not have reliable access to conventional banking services.

Potential applications include cross-border remittances, where users could send funds onchain while recipients convert them into local cash. Stablecoins could also support payments to gig workers in regions where traditional banking infrastructure is limited.

Aid organizations and charities could use similar infrastructure to distribute funds to remote or underserved communities, potentially reducing some of the friction involved in delivering financial assistance.

MoneyGram Expands Solana Commitment

The Ramps launch follows MoneyGram’s move in June 2026 to become an active validator on Solana. That step established the company as a participant in the network’s infrastructure, while the latest integration gives developers a direct way to connect blockchain applications with its payment network.

The combination of MoneyGram’s global cash infrastructure and Solana’s blockchain network gives developers a route to build financial applications that connect onchain transactions with physical cash access at international scale.

Wallet providers have also begun integrating the service. Rift, a Solana-based wallet, became the first wallet to incorporate MoneyGram Ramps, allowing its users to move between cryptocurrency and cash through the newly connected infrastructure.

For developers, the integration is available through the Solana Developer Platform, which provides access to API modules, payment tools and wallet-management capabilities. The broader objective is to reduce the operational barriers involved in deploying blockchain applications with real-world payment functionality.

The development strengthens Solana’s positioning as a network for high-speed, low-cost financial applications while expanding MoneyGram’s role in the digital asset economy. As blockchain adoption moves toward practical payment and financial services, the ability to connect digital assets with established cash networks could become increasingly important.

MoneyGram’s deeper integration with Solana reflects a broader shift toward combining established payment infrastructure with blockchain networks to support remittances, financial inclusion and other real-world financial applications.
