FC Barcelona has launched Barça Fan Lab, a blockchain-based platform built on the Cardano network with development support from Andamio and funding from Cardano’s Catalyst Fund 13. The initiative is designed to introduce fans to Web3 technology through educational activities and digital credentials rather than operate as a conventional commercial product.
The platform connects BarçaID digital identity with a Cardano Web3 wallet, allowing fans to hold verifiable credentials such as access tokens and educational badges without requiring advanced cryptocurrency knowledge. The approach is intended to lower the technical barriers that can prevent mainstream sports audiences from engaging with blockchain applications.
The project represents another effort by a major sports organization to explore blockchain technology through fan engagement and education. Rather than focusing primarily on token trading, Barça Fan Lab is structured as a learning environment where participants can gain experience with digital identity, blockchain-based credentials, and digital collectibles.
Four Educational Modules Target Fan Learning
The platform includes four educational modules covering different aspects of the FC Barcelona ecosystem and digital technology. The subjects include the club’s history, sustainability initiatives, fan engagement, and digital collectibles.
The modules are intended to provide users with a practical introduction to blockchain applications. By integrating educational content with digital credentials, the project gives participants an opportunity to interact with Web3 infrastructure while learning about the technology.
The use of verifiable credentials could also provide a way to recognize participation and achievements. Access tokens and educational badges can be associated with a user’s digital identity, potentially allowing participants to demonstrate completion of activities without relying on conventional paper-based or centralized records.
Andamio is supporting the development of the platform, while funding comes through Catalyst Fund 13, Cardano’s community-driven funding program. The collaboration places the project within Cardano’s broader effort to support blockchain applications beyond cryptocurrency transactions.
Barcelona to Track Fan Engagement
FC Barcelona plans to monitor participation and engagement with Barça Fan Lab through late 2026. The results are expected to help the club assess adoption and determine whether additional features or rewards could be introduced in the future.
The planned monitoring period will give FC Barcelona an opportunity to evaluate how fans interact with blockchain-based education and digital credentials before deciding on potential future rewards or broader applications.
