Cosmos Labs has developed a Tokenization Suite designed to connect banks’ existing core ledger infrastructure and tokenized-deposit systems with Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger, according to the report. The integration is intended to allow financial institutions to support round-the-clock cross-border payments without requiring them to replace their existing settlement infrastructure.
The development represents an effort to bridge conventional banking systems with blockchain-based payment infrastructure while preserving the role of commercial bank deposits in the financial system. Rather than requiring banks to migrate to a new settlement architecture, the platform is designed to work with systems already used by financial institutions.
The Tokenization Suite aims to give banks access to 24/7 cross-border payment capabilities while allowing them to retain their existing core ledgers, settlement infrastructure, and balance-sheet deposits.
The platform supports multiple blockchain environments, including Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks and Hyperledger Besu. It is also designed to synchronize with established banking technology platforms, including systems provided by Fiserv and Temenos. This compatibility is intended to reduce the operational changes required for banks seeking to integrate tokenized deposits into their existing financial infrastructure.
Focus on tokenized deposits and real-time treasury management
More than 40 financial institutions globally have participated in the development of the initiative, while 17 institutions have been involved in pilot transactions involving tokenized deposits, the report indicates. The participation provides a testing environment for financial institutions evaluating how blockchain-based settlement can interact with existing banking operations.
Tokenized deposits can represent commercial bank deposits in a digital format while continuing to remain liabilities of the issuing banks. The approach differs from systems that require financial institutions to move deposits away from traditional banking infrastructure or rely entirely on separate digital assets.
The Tokenization Suite is intended to support several treasury-management applications. These include real-time movement of liquidity, automated cash sweeps, and programmable money flows. Such capabilities could allow financial institutions to coordinate payments and liquidity across different jurisdictions with less dependence on traditional banking-hour restrictions.

Existing infrastructure remains central
A key feature of the approach is the continued use of existing settlement systems for final transactions. This could allow banks to introduce blockchain-based functionality without rebuilding their entire payment and settlement architecture.
The integration also addresses one of the broader challenges facing institutional blockchain adoption: connecting distributed-ledger technology with legacy financial systems. Banks typically operate multiple layers of infrastructure for deposits, payments, treasury operations and settlement. A platform capable of linking these systems with blockchain networks could provide a pathway for institutions to test tokenized financial products without undertaking a complete infrastructure replacement.
Swift’s shared-ledger initiative has been positioned around blockchain-based financial infrastructure capable of supporting transactions across institutions. Cosmos Labs’ technology seeks to connect that environment with the systems banks already use to manage deposits and settlements.
By linking existing banking infrastructure with a shared blockchain ledger, the project could give financial institutions a way to experiment with tokenized money and faster cross-border settlement without abandoning established systems.
