London Stock Exchange Group has been appointed a Super Validator on the Canton Network, expanding its involvement with the privacy-focused blockchain infrastructure used by institutional financial markets.
The appointment builds on LSEG’s existing role as a validator and follows the technical launch of its Digital Settlement House, or DiSH, cash application earlier this year. The move comes as banks, exchanges and other financial institutions increase their exploration of blockchain technology for settlement, payments and capital markets activity.
LSEG’s new Super Validator role will allow the financial infrastructure group to participate more deeply in Canton’s network governance while supporting blockchain-based settlement services for its businesses and clients.
DiSH Connects Institutional Settlement
LSEG’s DiSH platform is designed to support institutional settlement and commercial bank money solutions. The application is intended to provide a controlled framework through which regulated financial institutions can transfer value digitally while maintaining established governance and operational controls.
The platform can also act as a gateway for settlement across multiple blockchain networks, working alongside banks and existing financial market infrastructure. This approach is designed to help institutions use blockchain technology without requiring them to replace the systems and relationships already supporting their settlement operations.
Participants in Canton have used DiSH cash in proof-of-concept projects involving intraday repurchase agreements, commonly known as repos. Such transactions demonstrate how commercial bank money represented through blockchain infrastructure could potentially be used for institutional settlement.
The model also provides an alternative to using non-bank-issued digital assets, including stablecoins, for certain settlement activities. The use of commercial bank money could be relevant to institutions seeking blockchain-based settlement while maintaining links to the regulated banking system.
Canton Expands Institutional Connectivity
Canton is a privacy-enabled blockchain network focused on institutional financial markets. Its architecture is designed to support interactions between financial institutions while providing privacy and controls that are important for regulated transactions.
With its expanded role, LSEG is expected to contribute to Canton’s infrastructure and governance while working with other network participants. The company also plans to introduce additional services to support the network’s development and adoption across global financial markets.
LSEG’s participation is intended to strengthen connections between capital markets, post-trade operations and payments while creating additional infrastructure for institutional blockchain applications.
The development comes as financial institutions experiment with tokenized deposits, digital bonds and blockchain-based settlement. Lloyds, for example, has completed a tokenized deposit transaction on Canton while operating a validator node, according to the report. Societe Generale has also used the network in connection with a U.S. dollar-denominated digital bond.

LSEG has separately explored blockchain infrastructure through fundraising activity conducted via the London Stock Exchange, adding to its involvement with digital-asset technology across different areas of financial markets.
Super Validator Role Broadens LSEG’s Involvement
LSEG’s appointment gives the group a larger role in the operation and development of the Canton ecosystem. As a Super Validator, it can contribute to network infrastructure and governance while helping expand the practical applications available to institutional participants.
Bud Novin, head of DiSH and post-trade solutions at LSEG, said the platform was already being used to demonstrate how regulated institutions could move value digitally within a controlled governance and risk framework. He indicated that the expanded role would enable LSEG to contribute more directly to Canton while supporting adoption across the company’s businesses and client base.
Viv Diwakar, head of the Canton Foundation, said LSEG’s participation would broaden the network’s presence across capital markets, post-trade services and payments. He also emphasized the importance of turning greater connectivity into practical applications that could reduce friction for market participants.
Blockchain Settlement Moves Toward Production Use
The appointment reflects a wider shift from blockchain experimentation toward infrastructure intended for institutional financial activity. Banks and market infrastructure providers are examining whether distributed ledger technology can improve settlement speed, liquidity management and connectivity between financial systems.
The combination of Canton’s institutional blockchain infrastructure and LSEG’s settlement technology could provide financial institutions with additional options for moving commercial bank money and other forms of value across interconnected markets.
As per reports, LSEG’s expanded role is part of Canton’s broader effort to develop cross-market connectivity for financial institutions. The extent of future adoption will depend on production deployments, participation by banks and other market institutions, regulatory requirements, and the ability of blockchain-based settlement systems to integrate with established financial infrastructure.
