MoneyGram Deepens Blockchain Infrastructure Role

MoneyGram has entered into a strategic partnership with Tempo to become the blockchain network’s anchor remittance validator, signaling a major expansion of the company’s involvement in blockchain-based financial infrastructure and stablecoin payments.

Tempo, a Layer 1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, is focused on stablecoin transactions and real-world payment applications. Under the agreement, MoneyGram will assist in validating cross-border remittance transactions on the Tempo network while supporting stablecoin settlement operations through its global payments infrastructure.

The collaboration represents one of MoneyGram’s most direct participations in blockchain network operations to date. Instead of only integrating cryptocurrency-related payment services, the company is now taking an active role in helping secure and operate blockchain infrastructure.

MoneyGram will serve as Tempo’s anchor remittance validator, supporting cross-border transaction validation and stablecoin settlement across the blockchain network.

According to the announcement, MoneyGram joins a group of institutional validators already participating in the Tempo ecosystem, including Stripe, Visa, and Zodia Custody, which is reportedly being integrated into Standard Chartered.

Stablecoin Settlement Expands Across Payment Flows

As part of the partnership, MoneyGram, Tempo, and Stripe are expected to integrate stablecoin settlement directly into operational payment systems. Stripe is reportedly planning to settle transactions to MoneyGram using Tempo’s blockchain infrastructure, a move expected to improve treasury management efficiency and reduce friction in international settlement processes.

Tempo officially launched its mainnet earlier this year after reportedly securing substantial Series A funding. The blockchain network was designed to support high-volume stablecoin transactions, payment settlements, swaps, payroll processing, treasury operations, and retail commerce applications.

MoneyGram Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Soohoo reportedly stated that the company has long served as an important infrastructure provider for global money movement and is now actively building the next generation of payment systems as stablecoins and blockchain technology become more integrated into mainstream finance. He also indicated that Tempo’s focus on addressing practical consumer payment challenges made the partnership strategically aligned with MoneyGram’s objectives.

The partnership aims to integrate stablecoin settlement into real-world payment operations, potentially improving efficiency in treasury management and international remittance processing.

Tempo Expands Enterprise Blockchain Ecosystem

Tempo has continued expanding its ecosystem through new enterprise-focused services and partnerships. In recent months, the blockchain introduced a privacy-oriented feature known as Zones, which allows businesses to launch permissioned blockchain environments on top of Tempo’s main network. The feature is intended for enterprise applications, including payroll systems, treasury operations, and settlement management.

The company has also expanded into additional commercial partnerships, including stablecoin payment initiatives connected to retail and technology sectors. Tempo reportedly aims to maintain a neutral approach toward stablecoins, allowing users to transact and pay network fees using multiple stablecoin assets instead of limiting activity to a single token ecosystem.

Tempo Chief Executive Officer Matt Huang reportedly explained that the blockchain was built specifically for institutions handling everyday payments. He suggested that MoneyGram’s participation as a validator would contribute global payment expertise while helping bridge stablecoin settlement with practical financial use cases.

MoneyGram Strengthens Crypto Strategy

MoneyGram has steadily expanded its blockchain and cryptocurrency initiatives in recent years. The company has increasingly positioned itself as a major fiat off-ramp provider for digital asset users worldwide while integrating stablecoin technologies into international payment operations.

Earlier this year, the payments firm also announced a partnership with Kraken to support global money transfer services and integrated technology from Fireblocks to facilitate stablecoin settlement for wire transfers.

The Tempo agreement signals MoneyGram’s transition from offering crypto-related services to directly participating in blockchain infrastructure development and network validation.
