Moonray Studios has announced that its blockchain-based game, Moonray, will be launching on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 later this year. The studio aims to broaden its gaming reach beyond PC, where the game has been available via the Epic Games Store since July 1, 2024. With this expansion, the company plans to bring Web3 gaming to mainstream console players by 2025.
Following the PlayStation 5 launch announcement last year, the developers confirmed that the game is also slated for release on Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, the studio has revealed plans for a mobile auto-battler as part of its ongoing efforts to expand the Moonray ecosystem. Since its release on PC, the game has garnered significant traction, with over 400,000 unique wallet connections recorded within the ecosystem.
Milestones in Web3 Gaming
The studio expressed enthusiasm about the game’s transition to consoles, considering it a major step forward for Web3 gaming. The team believes this move highlights the quality of their project and demonstrates the potential of blockchain-integrated gaming experiences on major gaming platforms.
Moonray has attracted both casual gamers and competitive esports players, solidifying its presence in the Web3 gaming industry. The project has also achieved notable success in securing financial backing, raising over $10 million through multiple funding rounds since its inception in 2021. Investors backing the initiative include Animoca Brands, Republic, and other prominent stakeholders.
Token Expansion and NFT Success
Further strengthening its ecosystem, the game’s native token, MNRY, an ERC-20 asset, was introduced on centralized exchanges such as ByBit, KuCoin, Gate.io, and MEXC late last year. This move was aimed at enhancing the accessibility and utility of the token within the Moonray platform.
Moonray Studios made significant strides in the Web3 gaming segment by launching a multiplayer action arena game through the Epic Games Store. The game features multiple competitive modes, including 4v4 battles, 8-player deathmatches, team-based objectives, and 1v1 duels, where players compete in melee combat to climb leaderboards and earn rewards.
Set in a vivid post-human world, the game offers an immersive experience that tests both offensive and defensive gaming skills. Additionally, Moonray achieved a major milestone in November 2024 by setting a record on OpenSea, where over 220,000 exclusive in-game character items were minted within 48 hours, making it one of the largest NFT mints in gaming history.
Expansion Beyond Gaming
Beyond its presence in digital gaming, the company has also ventured into storytelling through graphic novels. The first novel, Mother’s Skin, was followed by a second installment, Echoes of Ascension. Both publications are available in more than 4,000 retail stores across North America and the United Kingdom, further expanding the Moonray universe into new creative domains.
While the company has not disclosed specific dates for its Xbox and PlayStation playtests, it has confirmed that efforts to port the title from PC to consoles are already underway. Playtests are expected to be conducted across all platforms in the latter half of the year, with additional details anticipated in upcoming announcements.
