Forum Targets AI Agents, DeFi and Tokenized Assets

Singapore is stepping up efforts to bring artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital finance closer together as it explores the technologies that could shape the region’s next phase of digital economic growth.

The Agentic Decentralized Finance Forum was inaugurated on Aug. 6, 2026, during SMEICC 2026 at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. Supported by the Singapore Innovation Centre and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the forum examined the convergence of AI agents, decentralized finance, tokenized real-world assets and digital financial infrastructure.

The forum placed AI agents and decentralized finance at the center of discussions about how financial systems could evolve as autonomous software becomes increasingly capable of participating in economic activity.

The event also served as a media session ahead of Singapore Blockchain Week, scheduled for Nov. 13-17, 2026.

AI Agents Could Become Financial Participants

A central issue discussed at the forum was the possibility that AI agents could eventually become direct participants in commerce. Instead of being used only to analyze financial information or assist human decision-makers, autonomous systems could potentially interact with payment networks, digital assets and other financial infrastructure to carry out transactions and financial tasks.

StraitsX CEO and co-founder Tianwei Liu said the emerging digital economy could involve AI agents taking a more active role in commerce. Such a development could increase demand for infrastructure that enables software systems to transfer value securely while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.

The shift could create new requirements around payments, digital identity, settlement, security and accountability. Singapore’s existing financial infrastructure and regulatory framework could therefore give the city-state an opportunity to help shape standards for emerging agentic financial systems.

The forum brought together representatives from government, financial institutions, technology companies, academia and the digital asset sector. Discussions covered agentic AI, DeFi, tokenized real-world assets, cross-border digital finance, decentralized identity, post-quantum security, trusted digital infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.

Tokenization and Stablecoins Gain Attention

Tokenization was another major area of focus. Blockchain-based representations of real-world assets could give financial institutions new mechanisms for issuing, transferring and settling assets through digital networks.

Associate Professor Edward Tay of the National University of Singapore School of Computing emphasized the importance of cooperation among researchers, businesses and regulators. Singapore’s progress in AI governance and accreditation, combined with its academic research capabilities, could help support the responsible adoption of autonomous AI and digital assets.

Stablecoins were also highlighted as a potential component of agentic commerce. StraitsX, which issues XSGD and XUSD, said its infrastructure supports stablecoin issuance, payments, settlement, treasury management and connections between blockchain networks and traditional payment systems. The company reported processing more than $30 billion in stablecoin transactions across more than 3.6 million transactions.

The forum linked stablecoins, tokenized assets and AI-driven commerce as complementary components of a potential digital financial infrastructure in which autonomous systems could move value between businesses and services.

Cross-Border Partnerships Expand

The event also marked a five-party memorandum of understanding involving Singapore Blockchain Week and organizations active in agentic commerce, entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence. Participants included Raffles Capital, VIA Labs with Animoca Brands, AIDX Tech, the China-Singapore AI Association and HICOOL Global Entrepreneur Summit.

The partnership aims to expand cross-border innovation networks and create opportunities for companies, entrepreneurs and technology communities across Singapore and Asia. Planned initiatives include an AI-powered Agentic Commerce Ticketing Platform being developed by VIA Labs in collaboration with Animoca Brands for Singapore Blockchain Week.

The collaboration will also support Raffles Capital’s AI x DeFi Convergence Pitch Competition, engagement with HICOOL’s international ecosystem and cooperation among AI and DeFi researchers and companies in Singapore and China.

MetaComp also pointed to Singapore’s regulatory environment as an advantage for developing digital financial infrastructure. The Singapore-based company operates across areas including digital payment tokens, cross-border payments, trading, custody, stablecoins and digital asset management.

Singapore Positions for the Next Digital Finance Cycle

Singapore Blockchain Week in November is expected to expand these discussions through conferences, industry forums and networking initiatives focused on agentic commerce, DeFi, digital infrastructure, institutional tokenization and real-world assets.

Singapore is increasingly presenting AI, blockchain, tokenization and regulated digital finance as interconnected elements of a broader strategy to strengthen its position as a regional digital finance hub.

The approach reflects a shift beyond cryptocurrency-focused applications toward financial infrastructure that could support institutions, enterprises and autonomous software systems. Its longer-term success will depend on whether the partnerships announced at the forum lead to commercially viable products, stronger cross-border connectivity and practical applications.

For Singapore, the convergence of AI and blockchain represents both an opportunity and a regulatory challenge. The country is seeking to encourage technological innovation while maintaining trusted systems for security, compliance and financial accountability.
