Sumsub Joins idOS Consortium to Advance Reusable Identity in Web3

Strengthening Decentralized Identity Standards

Identity verification platform Sumsub has joined the idOS Consortium in a move aimed at accelerating the adoption of reusable digital identity across the Web3 ecosystem. The company will also become part of the consortium’s Governance Committee, where it will help shape technical and regulatory standards for decentralized identity infrastructure.

The partnership is designed to enable users to complete identity verification only once and securely reuse their verified credentials across multiple decentralized platforms, reducing onboarding friction and lowering compliance costs for regulated cryptocurrency businesses.

The initiative addresses one of the persistent challenges facing decentralized finance, where users are often required to complete repeated Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures each time they interact with a new decentralized application (dApp). From crypto wallets to bank-connected financial services, these repeated verification processes can create unnecessary delays and increase operational costs for businesses.

Under the verify-once model developed by Sumsub and idOS, verified identity credentials can securely accompany users across supported platforms without requiring repeated data collection. The approach is intended to simplify user onboarding while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Benefits for Users and Regulated Platforms

The reusable identity framework is expected to deliver several operational advantages for both businesses and consumers. By eliminating repetitive KYC procedures, companies can reduce customer acquisition expenses through a more streamlined onboarding process. Users also benefit from enhanced privacy, as sensitive personal information is shared less frequently across different platforms. In addition, regulated Web3 businesses could see higher customer conversion rates by removing verification-related bottlenecks that often discourage new users.

As part of the idOS Association Governance Committee, Sumsub will contribute to developing decentralized identity standards while expanding the consortium’s open-source infrastructure to support the compliance requirements of large regulated financial institutions.

The collaboration builds on Sumsub’s existing work in on-chain identity attestations across blockchain ecosystems including Solana, Linea, and Chainlink. The company plans to contribute directly to the idOS open-source technology stack to strengthen its capabilities for enterprise-grade compliance and identity management.

The infrastructure supports interoperability across more than 40 Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and non-EVM blockchain networks. Sumsub is also expected to contribute strategically to the idOS Relay product, which focuses on enabling portable digital identities across blockchain ecosystems. Furthermore, the company’s network includes integration with more than 2,100 virtual asset service providers (VASPs), potentially extending the reach of reusable identity solutions.

Supporting Global Regulatory Compliance

The collaboration also seeks to address the growing need to balance decentralized technologies with evolving global compliance requirements. By joining the idOS Consortium, whose members include major blockchain and financial technology organizations such as Circle and Ripple, Sumsub is contributing to the development of a standardized identity layer for the expanding digital asset economy.

The initiative is expected to support compliance with international regulatory frameworks, including the Travel Rule, while preserving user privacy through reusable identity credentials.

According to Ilya Brovin, Chief Growth Officer of Sumsub, the company had spent the past year demonstrating that verified identities could securely remain with users instead of requiring repeated collection across both off-chain and on-chain environments. He added that joining the idOS Consortium would allow the company to further develop reusable identity infrastructure capable of meeting the compliance and privacy requirements of the largest regulated Web3 organizations, which he described as an essential step toward broader market expansion.

By combining decentralized identity technology with regulatory compliance, the partnership aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to mainstream Web3 adoption while creating a more efficient and privacy-focused user experience across blockchain networks.
