The move is intended to make governance faster, more transparent, and resistant to manipulation. With this step, Amravati has emerged as one of the first municipal bodies in the state to adopt blockchain on a significant scale, reflecting how digital governance is expanding beyond metropolitan centers.
Aiming for Citizen-Friendly, Transparent Administration
Municipal Commissioner Saumya Sharma Chandak indicated that the project’s central goal is to develop a governance model that prioritizes both efficiency and citizen accessibility. She emphasized that blockchain serves as a vital tool in enhancing public trust, transparency, and operational speed within civic systems. The introduction of this technology, she explained, represents not just a technical upgrade but a cultural shift toward digital responsibility and citizen-centric governance.
At its core, the project is designed around blockchain’s key attribute — immutability. Once a record is added to the blockchain, it cannot be altered or erased, thereby minimizing risks related to fraud, manipulation, and data tampering. This ensures that administrative records remain permanent and verifiable.
Blockchain for Everyday Governance
The new system will store essential municipal records such as fire safety certifications, trade licenses, and building approvals on the blockchain. Authorities explained that this would create a tamper-proof archive of civic data, significantly reducing the possibility of forged documents. Each certificate issued by AMC will include a unique QR code that citizens can scan to confirm its authenticity instantly.
This seemingly simple addition is expected to drastically improve the citizen experience, allowing individuals to verify documents digitally instead of visiting multiple counters. Officials believe this approach will make administrative processes faster, simpler, and more reliable for the public.
Enhanced Accountability and Fraud Prevention

Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada noted that the government’s broader goal is to build a transparent and inclusive governance system that bridges regional disparities and improves accessibility. He also referenced national projects such as AIKosh, the IndiaAI platform, and the Open Government Data portal, which collectively support digital innovation.
