clear street deepens blockchain push with senior hires

Clear Street Investment Banking has announced a significant expansion of its blockchain and digital assets advisory division, reflecting the firm’s broader effort to strengthen its presence at the crossroads of traditional finance and emerging technologies. The initiative has been anchored by the appointment of two new managing directors, a move that underscores the company’s commitment to institutional-grade solutions for clients navigating the increasingly complex landscape of digital assets.

As part of this development, Clear Street confirmed the hiring of Nakul Mehta and Collin Finnerty to lead the division. Both executives bring over a decade of experience in capital markets and M&A advisory, having previously served in key roles at MJC Partners and BTIG. Their responsibilities at Clear Street will include strategic guidance to clients operating across sectors such as cryptocurrency, blockchain infrastructure, Web3 platforms, and broader digital asset ecosystems.

Leadership within the firm indicated that the digital asset sector is transitioning into a phase characterized by heightened institutional engagement. According to senior executives at Clear Street, digital assets and blockchain technologies have evolved beyond experimental applications and are now integral components of corporate strategy. This shift is prompting more businesses to incorporate cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin into their treasury portfolios, making expert guidance in this space increasingly vital.

Mehta and Finnerty are expected to lead advisory efforts in several key areas. These include go-public strategies and capital raising activities, such as initial public offerings, secondary offerings, venture funding, and private placements. Additionally, the team will assist companies with cryptocurrency treasury management and structuring, particularly in compliance-heavy environments.

Other core services will involve M&A strategy, including cross-border deals and divestitures linked to digital asset infrastructure. The team will also provide corporate development support for institutions looking to form partnerships or enter the digital asset market through strategic investments or joint ventures.

Clear Street’s expansion into digital assets complements its broader investment banking and equity research operations, which already provide coverage of high-growth sectors such as technology, healthcare, and energy. The firm’s leadership noted that this strategic move aligns with its overarching mission of delivering high-quality advisory and execution services powered by a next-generation, cloud-native financial technology platform.

The firm’s Chief Executive Officer explained that Clear Street’s diversified focus across sectors like blockchain and healthcare enhances the value of its brokerage services, which include financing, derivatives, and sales and trading. With this expansion, the company is positioning itself to meet growing client demand for sophisticated financial solutions across both legacy and digital markets.

Year-to-date, Clear Street’s investment banking arm has participated in transactions exceeding $2.35 billion. These have included public listings for firms such as Renatus Tactical Acquisition Corp and Digital Asset Acquisition Corp, along with a range of capital raises and strategic mandates across various industries.

In a further signal of its deepening involvement in the blockchain ecosystem, Clear Street has also confirmed its role as a sponsor of Bitcoin 2025, an upcoming event organized by Nakamoto, scheduled for May 27-29 at the Venetian in Las Vegas. This sponsorship highlights the firm’s growing visibility within the digital assets community and its commitment to supporting the sector’s long-term development.
