The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced plans to establish a Government Blockchain Academy in the coming year. The program is designed to equip government officials with knowledge in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies, aiming to strengthen digital capabilities within the public sector.
According to the UNDP, the academy is intended to help governments make use of advanced technologies to drive economic development and achieve sustainable growth. The initiative reflects the organization’s broader strategy of supporting innovation that enhances governance, resilience, and inclusivity in developing and emerging economies.
Collaboration with Exponential Science Foundation
The academy will be launched in collaboration with the Exponential Science Foundation, a non-profit institution that advocates for blockchain and AI integration in global development. Training modules are expected to focus on practical applications, including digital identification systems, financial services, public procurement, smart contracts, and climate finance. These areas have been identified as priority fields where emerging technologies can improve transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness in government operations.
Officials underscored that countries such as India, Pakistan, and Vietnam are already at the forefront of adopting crypto and blockchain-related solutions. The academy aims to build on this momentum by providing public officials with the tools and frameworks needed to support national objectives while adapting to the rapid pace of technological change.
Blended Learning for Government Stakeholders
The training will be delivered through a mix of in-person sessions, online courses, workshops, and interactive forums. This hybrid model is designed to give participants both theoretical knowledge and practical insights, enabling them to implement high-impact blockchain initiatives. UNDP highlighted that the curriculum would align with the priorities of participating governments, ensuring that the lessons can be directly applied to real-world challenges in governance and public administration.
Building on Previous Training Success
This upcoming academy builds on the foundation laid by an earlier UNDP program, developed in partnership with the Algorand Foundation. That initiative, launched in the previous year, successfully trained more than 22,000 staff members from multiple countries. The training was aimed at strengthening sustainable growth projects by enabling participants to apply blockchain-based solutions across various sectors.
The new academy is set to expand on that success by scaling the reach to senior policymakers and government leaders, ensuring that decision-makers have the technical knowledge needed to guide national strategies.

Analysts view the academy as a strategic step in preparing governments for the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation.
