Bitcoin Nears $80K as ETF Inflows Boost Spot Demand

Falling Open Interest Signals Reduced Reliance on Leverage

Bitcoin climbed sharply toward $80,000 as stronger spot demand and renewed institutional buying helped drive the latest market advance. The cryptocurrency was trading at around $77,477.47 in the latest update, after rising about 30% from the $63,000 area.

The rally has coincided with a decline in open interest, suggesting that the move has not been primarily driven by increasing leverage in derivatives markets. Instead, the combination of rising prices, positive exchange-traded fund flows and fresh spot-market demand points to a potentially healthier structure behind the advance.

Open interest tracks the total value of outstanding futures and perpetual contracts. A decline during a significant price increase can indicate that traders are closing leveraged positions rather than adding aggressively to them. That dynamic contrasts with rallies in which rapidly expanding derivatives exposure can amplify both gains and subsequent corrections.

Bitcoin’s roughly 30% rise from $63,000 toward $80,000, alongside falling open interest and stronger ETF inflows, indicates that spot buying rather than expanding leverage has played a larger role in the latest rally.

Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs See Strong Capital Inflows

Investor demand for crypto investment products has also strengthened. Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds reportedly recorded more than $192 billion in combined net inflows over a five-day period, highlighting a substantial increase in institutional participation.

Ethereum accounted for about $697 million of the reported inflows during the period. Monthly net inflows reached approximately $2.38 billion for Bitcoin and $939.86 million for Ethereum, representing their strongest monthly performances in nearly a year, according to the report.

The renewed ETF demand provides an additional source of buying pressure for the two largest cryptocurrencies. Spot-based funds can give institutional and traditional-market investors exposure to digital assets without requiring them to directly manage cryptocurrency wallets or use derivatives markets.

The scale of the reported flows could therefore become an important factor in determining whether the current Bitcoin advance can extend further. Sustained inflows would indicate continued demand from investors using regulated market products, while a reversal could remove an important source of support.

BITCOIN IS UP 30% AND SOMETHING IMPORTANT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME.$BTC just ripped from around $63K to nearly $80K, but leverage isn’t exploding with the price.

Bitcoin Outperforms Traditional Markets

Bitcoin has also separated from the performance of US equities during the latest period. The cryptocurrency gained 23.8% week over week, while US stocks declined 1.4%, producing a wide performance gap between digital assets and traditional markets.

Such a divergence can indicate that Bitcoin is responding to factors that are distinct from those influencing conventional risk assets. While cryptocurrencies have historically traded alongside equities during periods of changing investor risk appetite, the latest move suggests that crypto-specific demand is becoming increasingly influential.

Bitcoin’s 23.8% weekly gain compared with a 1.4% decline in US equities marks a notable divergence and points to continued decoupling between the cryptocurrency and traditional markets.

Institutional Demand Becomes a Key Market Driver

The combination of rising spot demand, positive ETF flows and declining open interest provides a different backdrop from a rally dominated by speculative derivatives positioning. Investors are increasingly watching whether these conditions can persist as Bitcoin approaches the psychologically important $80,000 level.

Ethereum has also benefited from the broader improvement in institutional flows, with nearly $940 million in monthly ETF inflows reported. The simultaneous strength of Bitcoin and Ethereum investment products suggests that demand is not limited to a single digital asset.

Very rare to see such a big performance spread.

If ETF inflows remain positive and spot buying continues, Bitcoin could maintain stronger support even if derivatives activity remains subdued. However, the cryptocurrency market remains sensitive to shifts in investor positioning, making sustained capital inflows an important indicator for the next phase of the rally.

As per reports, the latest market structure reflects a growing role for institutional and spot-market demand. The shift could reduce the dependence of Bitcoin’s advance on leveraged trading and strengthen the importance of ETF flows and direct market demand in determining future price momentum.
