Alchemy Introduces Agent Wallet Security for Blockchain Automation

New CLI Feature Keeps Private Keys With Custody Providers

Blockchain developer infrastructure company Alchemy has introduced an agent wallet capability through its command-line interface, seeking to improve security for automated blockchain transaction workflows.

According to information shared by the company, the new capability is designed to allow automated software agents to perform blockchain-related activities without directly accessing or controlling private keys. Under the proposed model, sensitive credentials remain with a designated custody provider while agents receive limited and temporary permissions to carry out approved operations.

The approach is intended to address security concerns surrounding the growing use of artificial intelligence and automated agents in digital asset management. As software agents take on a larger role in executing transactions and managing blockchain-based workflows, organizations have faced questions about how to provide operational access without exposing private keys to applications or local computing environments.

Alchemy’s agent wallet framework is designed to keep private keys under the control of custody providers while granting automated agents restricted, time-limited access to execute authorized blockchain transactions.

The company indicated that agents using the system could complete a range of tasks across blockchain networks, including building and testing applications, exchanging digital assets, transferring assets between networks, and making deposits. These activities could be performed without requiring the agents to directly possess or store sensitive wallet credentials.

The model relies on defined access permissions that can be limited according to the requirements of a specific task. The temporary sessions are also designed to be revocable, giving organizations greater control over how automated systems interact with digital assets.

Security Controls Target Enterprise Adoption

The capability appears to address a major obstacle to wider adoption of automated blockchain operations: the risk associated with giving software agents access to private keys.

Private keys provide control over blockchain wallets and the assets held within them. Their exposure to automated systems, applications or local devices could create significant security risks, particularly when agents are authorized to manage valuable digital assets or execute transactions in production environments.

Alchemy’s proposed architecture separates credential custody from transaction execution. Under this arrangement, a custody provider retains responsibility for protecting private keys, while an automated agent receives only the permissions needed to complete a specific activity.

The company’s use of configurable controls and revocable access sessions suggests that the system is intended to support organizations that require stronger oversight of automated financial workflows.

The system could enable agents to perform end-to-end blockchain operations, including asset swaps, cross-chain transfers and deposits, without directly holding sensitive wallet credentials.

The feature may be particularly relevant to professional developers, digital asset businesses and institutional organizations that want to use automation while maintaining established security and governance standards.

By limiting the duration and scope of access, the system could reduce the potential impact of compromised software agents or unauthorized transaction requests. It may also allow companies to establish rules governing the types of operations an agent can perform and the conditions under which access can be withdrawn.

You trust your agent to write code.
But would you hand it your wallet's private key to sign txns?

If your answer is no, that instinct would be right.

Automation Could Strengthen Alchemy’s Infrastructure Offering

From a business perspective, the new capability could expand Alchemy’s role as a provider of blockchain development and infrastructure services.

Enhanced security tools and automated transaction capabilities may increase the company’s appeal among organizations operating in security-sensitive areas of the digital asset industry. The feature could also support deeper integration with digital asset custodians and institutional clients that require controlled access to blockchain networks.

If adopted broadly, the agent wallet capability could help Alchemy expand its enterprise services by combining workflow automation with custody-based security and configurable transaction controls.

The technology may create opportunities for the company to strengthen customer retention and broaden its presence among institutional users, particularly as automated agents become more widely used for blockchain development, treasury management and digital asset operations.

The introduction also reflects growing efforts across the blockchain industry to establish safer methods for allowing artificial intelligence systems and automated software to interact with real assets.

While Alchemy has outlined the security and operational objectives of the new capability, its commercial impact will depend on adoption by developers, custody providers and institutional clients. The effectiveness of its access controls and integration with existing blockchain workflows will also be important in determining whether the product gains broader use.
