BabyDoge has acquired LimeWire, bringing the well-known internet file-sharing brand under Web3 ownership as the platform prepares for a broader shift toward creator ownership, decentralized storage, and artificial intelligence-powered tools.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
LimeWire Shifts Toward Creator-Owned Digital Infrastructure
The modern LimeWire platform was rebuilt and relaunched in 2022 by brothers Julian and Paul Zehetmayr. The founders spent about five years developing the technology infrastructure behind the platform, which has since evolved substantially from its earlier identity as a peer-to-peer file-sharing service.
The companies emphasized that the current LimeWire platform has no corporate affiliation with the original Lime Wire LLC or Lime Group LLC associated with the file-sharing service that became widely known during the 2000s.
The rebuilt platform has reportedly attracted about 8 million users each month, giving the new owners an established user base as LimeWire prepares for its next stage of development.
Under the new ownership, LimeWire plans to focus on creator control of content and data, decentralized file storage, and AI-powered creative workflows, with the $LMWR token becoming the platform’s native utility asset.
Leadership of the company will transition to Abel Czupor and BabyDoge, with the new management expected to guide the platform through its planned expansion into decentralized infrastructure and AI-enabled creator services.
$LMWR Token to Support Storage and AI Services
A major component of the new strategy involves the $LMWR cryptocurrency, which is expected to serve as the native utility token across LimeWire. Its planned applications include decentralized storage services and access to AI-powered tools.
The move would broaden LimeWire’s role from a creator-focused digital platform into an ecosystem combining content ownership, decentralized data infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
The company has indicated that its AI strategy will focus on supporting creators rather than placing greater control in the hands of centralized technology providers. The new approach is intended to give creators greater control over their content and data while providing tools for producing and managing digital material.
LimeWire is expected to publish an updated product roadmap in the coming weeks, potentially providing more details about the rollout of decentralized storage, AI services and other products under the new ownership.
BabyDoge Adds Its Community to the Ecosystem
BabyDoge brings a community of more than 3 million users to the transaction. The broader project has said that more than 5 million people have participated in its ecosystem since its launch in 2021.

The project has also highlighted its charitable activities, reporting more than $1.5 million in contributions to animal shelters and rescue organizations.
For LimeWire, the acquisition provides access to BabyDoge’s established community while giving BabyDoge control of a digital brand with a long history and a substantial modern user base.
The Zehetmayr brothers have described their work on LimeWire as a multiyear effort to rebuild the brand around a functioning product and scalable infrastructure. The new leadership has similarly characterized the acquisition as an opportunity to build infrastructure that can support millions of users while putting creators at the center of AI-assisted digital production.
The acquisition combines LimeWire’s reported 8 million monthly users with BabyDoge’s broader community, creating a larger potential audience for decentralized storage, AI services, and creator-focused products.
