brazilian postal service adopts blockchain and ai for logistics

The Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company (Correios) has introduced an initiative to incorporate blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) into its logistics and supply chain management. This initiative is part of a comprehensive digital transformation strategy designed to enhance efficiency, security, and transparency in parcel delivery across the country.

Operating under the Ministry of Communications, the public agency recently announced a pre-selection process for companies and specialists to propose technological solutions aimed at improving business operations and procurement processes. The announcement was published in the Official Gazette of the Union on March 7, 2025, under the official title Pre-Selection and Dialogue Bidding No. 25000001/2025 CS.

Leveraging Blockchain and AI for Logistics Optimization

Correios intends to utilize blockchain’s secure and immutable ledger system to strengthen tracking mechanisms, mitigate fraud risks, and increase delivery reliability. At the same time, AI-driven tools are expected to optimize route planning, automate sorting processes, and improve the accuracy of delivery time predictions.

The agency has emphasized the importance of fostering a collaborative and dynamic approach to identifying innovative AI and blockchain solutions to address operational and procurement challenges. By integrating these advanced technologies, the postal service aims to overcome inefficiencies in its extensive and intricate logistics network, which spans across a geographically vast nation.

Blockchain technology has seen increasing adoption worldwide in supply chain management due to its ability to provide real-time tracking and ensure tamper-proof records. Correios’ decision to incorporate these digital solutions aligns with global trends in logistics innovation, aiming to modernize its services for improved reliability and speed.

Bidding Process and Future Implications

Companies interested in participating in this initiative have until April 11, 2025, to submit their proposals. The detailed bidding regulations, including eligibility criteria and project specifications, are available on the official Correios website. If successfully implemented, the project could significantly enhance the efficiency and security of Brazil’s postal service, potentially setting a benchmark for modernization within the sector.

Brazil’s Growing Presence in the Crypto Sector

Alongside its push for blockchain adoption in logistics, Brazil has continued to strengthen its position as a prominent player in the global cryptocurrency market. With approximately 26 million citizens—equivalent to 12% of the population—holding digital assets, the country ranks sixth worldwide in terms of crypto adoption. This increasing engagement with blockchain-based technologies reflects Brazil’s broader efforts to integrate digital innovations across various sectors, reinforcing its status as a leader in financial and technological advancements.
