COTI Champions Privacy with New Monthly DeCC Initiative

Privacy-oriented Layer 2 blockchain COTI has launched a monthly virtual initiative titled DeCC (Decentralized Confidential Computing) to spotlight onchain privacy and bring together key players in the Web3 ecosystem. This recurring series aims to foster collaboration among teams and developers building privacy-preserving technologies for decentralized platforms, while also raising awareness about the importance of secure data handling for enterprises and individual users engaging in blockchain transactions.

The inaugural DeCC event was hosted as a Twitter Spaces session on July 22, 2025, in partnership with Secret Network. This opening event centered around the growing concept of an impending Privacy Summer—a term being used to describe the anticipated wave of adoption of privacy-enabling technologies across the blockchain landscape. The discussion attracted a significant audience, reportedly in the thousands, and featured participation from leading voices across multiple Web3 projects, including Midnight Network, Ten Protocol, Mind Network, and others.

Spotlight on the Shift from Privacy 1.0 to 2.0

The discussion at the first DeCC gathering highlighted a clear contrast between two distinct eras in blockchain privacy innovation. The first wave, often termed Privacy 1.0, was characterized by its emphasis on secrecy but lacked compatibility with regulatory frameworks, limiting its potential for mainstream adoption. In contrast, the newer phase, Privacy 2.0, is focused on enabling secure, identity-conscious, and compliant privacy protocols that maintain transparency for institutions while offering individuals stronger protections for their onchain activities.

Participants from projects like Midnight Network, which leverages zero-knowledge smart contracts to boost privacy, and Ten Protocol, which is developing a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), offered insights into how privacy can be preserved without sacrificing functionality. Their contributions underscored the evolving role of encrypted technologies in areas ranging from AI-driven applications to decentralized prediction markets.

COTI’s leadership has stressed that robust privacy is not just a feature but a prerequisite for broader blockchain adoption. The project’s CEO described public blockchains without privacy as inadequate for serious use cases and framed Privacy 2.0 not as a means to obscure information but as a tool for identity assurance, safety, and scalable compliance. He further suggested that blockchain privacy has now reached a pivotal point, shedding its complexity and entering a more practical and widely accepted phase.

Building a Collaborative Future for Onchain Privacy

COTI plans to continue hosting monthly DeCC sessions to promote interoperability and awareness across the privacy-focused segment of Web3. These events are designed not only to spotlight new technical developments but also to encourage cross-project partnerships and educate the wider crypto community on how to leverage privacy tools effectively. By creating a shared space for discussion and updates, COTI hopes to drive community participation and adoption of privacy-enhancing technologies.

The foundation of COTI’s privacy layer is based on Garbled Circuits, a cryptographic technique developed in collaboration with Soda Labs. This privacy infrastructure is built to be programmable, scalable, and compatible with both EVM and non-EVM blockchain environments. The goal is to support a wide variety of use cases across DeFi and broader Web3 applications, allowing users to selectively obscure transactions or sensitive data without compromising performance.

By sustaining momentum through the DeCC initiative, COTI envisions a near-future where privacy becomes a normalized component of decentralized platforms. This includes applications ranging from secure wallet balances to proprietary trading logic, with privacy mechanisms embedded directly into dApps, smart contracts, and user interfaces. Through consistent education and outreach, the project seeks to help usher in the so-called Privacy Summer—a period marked by widespread integration and understanding of blockchain privacy standards.
