Fireblocks has released a comprehensive guide aimed at European financial institutions seeking to navigate jurisdictional and regulatory issues surrounding digital asset infrastructure. The company is emphasizing its European data residency, regulatory-focused architecture and operational controls as the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, known as MiCA, becomes a central framework for the region’s digital asset market.
The development comes as European banks and financial institutions increase investment in digital asset infrastructure. Fireblocks’ recent research indicated that 53% of European financial institutions had allocated dedicated budgets for digital asset infrastructure in 2026, highlighting growing institutional demand for compliant blockchain services.
The company has already attracted major institutional projects in the region. The Qivalis banking consortium is using Fireblocks infrastructure for a euro-backed stablecoin project expected to launch later this year, reflecting the growing role of regulated infrastructure providers as financial institutions develop blockchain-based products.
Fireblocks is positioning its infrastructure around EU data sovereignty, regulatory compliance and client-controlled cryptographic security as European institutions prepare for stricter digital asset requirements under MiCA.
EU data sovereignty at the center
Data sovereignty is a key component of Fireblocks’ European strategy. The company’s software-as-a-service platform operates within EU borders, with infrastructure distributed across four European countries. The geographic distribution is designed to strengthen operational resilience while reducing dependence on a single location.
The infrastructure includes redundancy intended to prevent an individual system or geographic failure from disrupting service availability. Although limited information may be processed in the United States to support global operations, Fireblocks said its handling of such data is structured to comply with European data protection requirements, including the use of Standard Contractual Clauses.
The approach could be particularly relevant to European financial institutions concerned about where sensitive operational information is stored and processed. Regulatory obligations increasingly require banks and other regulated entities to maintain clear oversight of technology providers and their handling of data.
MPC architecture keeps control with clients
Fireblocks’ technical model also emphasizes client control over private cryptographic keys. Its multi-party computation, or MPC, architecture divides key operations across multiple components rather than maintaining a complete private key in one location.
Under the system described by the company, private key material remains within the client’s environment, limiting Fireblocks’ ability to independently access or manipulate client assets. Customers can also reconstruct their keys independently, supporting the ability to migrate assets to another infrastructure provider when necessary.
Institutions using hardware security modules can retain similar control over their cryptographic assets. This structure is intended to address concerns among regulated institutions about third-party access, asset control and operational dependency.
The MPC-based architecture is designed to ensure that clients retain control of their private key material while providing a pathway to independently recover and migrate assets if they change infrastructure providers.
Resilience and contractual safeguards
Fireblocks is also highlighting its business continuity and disaster recovery framework. The company maintains ISO 22301 certification for business continuity and disaster recovery processes, supported by annual reviews and SOC 1 Type 2 audits. The company reported that those audits had identified no exceptions.

Its distributed workforce and follow-the-sun support model are intended to reduce exposure to disruptions affecting any single geographic region. Such arrangements can be important for financial institutions that require digital asset infrastructure to remain operational around the clock.
Contractual measures provide another layer of protection. Fireblocks offers regulated customers a regulatory addendum to its Master Service Agreement covering MiCA-related and other obligations. Client data is retained securely for seven years following contract termination, although case-by-case deletion can be requested under applicable arrangements.
Growing role in Europe’s digital asset market
The strategy comes as European institutions move toward regulated applications for stablecoins, payments and other blockchain-based financial products. Fireblocks’ work with the Qivalis consortium and OpenPayd’s integration with the Fireblocks Network for Payments indicate growing institutional use of its infrastructure.
